OUR STORY
The story of Reese Lane Bible Church began with a burden. In the summer of 1982, Vernon Griffin and his wife, Glenda were traveling the country preaching revivals as full time evangelists, when God gave them a burden to come to Columbus and start a home missions church with the United Pentecostal Church International. After settling in, Vernon began to search for a place to have services
. A door was opened for them to hold services in the Mansfield Building, in Columbus, for six months. They held their first service on January 23, 1983. When this time was up, the school board gave them permission to hold services in the Junior High School snack bar for about a year. During this first year and a half, the small but growing congregation held various fundraisers to raise money to purchase property. After raising enough money for a down payment, the church purchased three acres on Reese Lane, just east of Columbus. After clearing the land, they moved a portable chapel onto the property that was provided by the Home Missions Department of the United Pentecostal Church. At last, Reese Lane Bible Church had a permanent home! The congregation held services in the portable chapel for about three years. When this little building was full, they decided it was time to build. Doing most of the work themselves, they set about to pour a slab, have a metal building erected, and enlarge the parking lot. Today, a 5,000 square foot facility, complete with fellowship hall, Sunday school rooms, a nursery, prayer rooms, an office and a sanctuary that will seat 200 stands as a testimony to what God can do with few human resources!
