This Pulitzer Prize-winning photograph from 1960 captures a priest administering the last rites to a Cuban farmer and landowner who refused to cooperate with the Castro regime. After a brief four-minute trial led by Che Guevara, he was executed by firing squad.

For many, the image stands as a powerful symbol of the harsh realities and human cost associated with socialism under the Cuban regime.

5 Powerful reasons to go to Holy Mass

1) We Encounter and Receive Jesus in the Eucharist
At Mass, we believe that bread and wine truly become the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ.

The Eucharist is not just a symbol — it is a real encounter with Christ.
Jesus said in Gospel of John 6:35, “I am the Bread of Life.”
Receiving Him strengthens our soul, forgives venial sins, and deepens our relationship with Him.

2. Jesus Commanded It

At the Last Supper, Jesus instituted the Eucharist and commanded:
“Do this in memory of me.” — Luke 22:19
The Church teaches this command is fulfilled in every Mass (see CCC 1337–1344).
We go because Christ asked us to.
The Mass makes present the sacrifice of Christ on the Cross in an unbloody way.
It connects us directly to what happened at Calvary.

3. We Receive Grace and Spiritual Strength

Life is full of challenges. Mass gives us:
-Strength to resist temptation
-Peace in anxiety
-Hope in suffering
-Guidance in decision-making
-God gives special graces through the sacraments, especially the Eucharist.
Just as our bodies need food, our souls need spiritual nourishment.

4. It Fulfills God’s Commandment

The Third Commandment says to keep the Lord’s Day holy.
The Church, founded by Jesus Christ, teaches that attending Sunday Mass is a serious obligation (unless excused for illness or serious reason).
It’s not just a rule — it’s about putting God first.

5. Christianity is not meant to be lived alone.
At Mass we:
Pray and Worship together
Listen to Scripture
Support one another
Become one Body in Christ
The Church is a family — and Mass brings that family together.

🙏The truth about the Holy Rosary: It’s a Gospel meditation, not magic, not idolatry. It’s just walking through the life of Jesus with Mary.

Here’s the whole thing stripped of myths:

🙏1. What the Rosary actually is*

*It’s a prayer made of 3 things:*
👉1. Scripture– The Our Father- and Hail Mary are both from the Bible. Luke 11:2-4, Luke 1:28, 42.
👉2. Meditation – You “think about” 20 key events in Jesus’ life called Mysteries -Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, Luminous.
👉3. Repetition – You repeat prayers like you’d repeat “I love you” to someone you love. Not to get God’s attention, but to keep your mind focused.

" Analogy " If you replay a homily or song in your head to remember it, that’s what the Rosary does with the Gospel.

👉2. Where it comes from - historically

It didn’t drop from the sky in 1200 AD. It developed over 800 years:
Time What happened
" 400-800 AD " Monks prayed the 150 Psalms daily. Illiterate lay people couldn’t read Latin, so they prayed 150 "Our Fathers" instead. They used knotted cords to count.
"800-1200 AD" The "Hail Mary" became common. First it was just Luke 1:28 + 42. “Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us” was added later.
👉1200s Tradition says St. Dominic received the Rosary from Mary to combat the Albigensian heresy. Historians say he popularized a form of it that already existed.
👉1400s Bl. Alan de la Roche and others added the meditation on the 15 Mysteries. This is the form we know today.
👉2002 St. John Paul II added the "Luminous Mysteries" – Jesus’ public ministry. Now there are 20 Mysteries.
So it’s not “invented in the Middle Ages.” It grew organically from how early Christians prayed Scripture.

👉3. What’s actually in the prayers - all biblical.

Let’s open it up:

🙏The Sign of the Cross*: Matt 28:19 _“In the name of the Father, Son, Holy Spirit”

👉Apostles’ Creed: Summary of 1 Cor 15:3-8, Acts 2:22-36. Every line is in the Bible.

🙏 " Our Father ": Matt 6:9-13. Jesus taught this Himself.

👉 " Hail Mary ":
👉 Part 1: Luke 1:28, 42. Angel + Elizabeth speaking by the Holy Spirit.
👉 Part 2: “Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners” – Asking a Christian to pray for you. James 5:16 “pray for one another.” Rev 5:8 shows saints in heaven offering prayers.

👉 Glory Be: Doxology. Rom 11:36, Rev 1:6. Praising the Trinity.

👉 Hail Holy Queen/Salve Regina*: Medieval hymn, not in the Bible, but based on Rev 12:1 “woman clothed with the sun.” It’s a prayer asking Mary’s intercession.

👉 Fatima Prayer: “O my Jesus, forgive us our sins…” 20th century addition. Optional.

👉 So 90% of the words are straight Scripture or creed.

👉 4. The “objections” and what’s really going on

👉 Objection 1: “It’s vain repetition” Matt 6:7*
Jesus condemned _pagan babbling to force a god to listen. The Rosary repeats prayers to focus your mind on Christ_. Jesus Himself repeated prayers in Gethsemane Matt 26:44. The Psalms repeat “His steadfast love endures forever” 26 times in Psalm 136.

👉 Objection 2: “You’re worshipping Mary”
No. Catholics distinguish:
🙏 Latria = worship due to God alone.
🙏 Dulia = honor due to saints.
🙏 Hyperdulia = highest honor due to Mary, because she’s the Mother of God.

👉 You don’t sacrifice to Mary. You don’t say she saves you. You ask her to pray for you, same way you’d ask a friend. Luke 1:48 _“All generations will call me blessed.” That’s what the Rosary does.

👉Objection 3: “It distracts from Jesus”
That’s the point – it doesn’t. Every Mystery is about Jesus: His birth, baptism, crucifixion, resurrection. Mary always points to Him. John 2:5 “Do whatever He tells you.” The Rosary is 20 times of saying “Look at Jesus.”

👉5. Why Catholics actually pray it....

👉 3 reasons from 2000 years of experience:*

👉 1. It’s contemplative: The repetition shuts up your brain so your heart can sit with Christ. Try meditating on the Crucifixion for 20 minutes without a structure. It’s hard. The Rosary gives you structure.

👉 2. It’s scriptural : You’re literally praying the Gospel. Pope St. John Paul II called it .“A compendium of the Gospel.”

👉 3. It’s effective*: Not because of the beads. Because you’re asking Jesus, through His mother, to conform you to Him. Rom 8:29 “to be conformed to the image of His Son.”

👉 6. The bottom line:

🙏 The Rosary is not required for salvation. You won’t go to hell for not praying it.
" But it’s a tool " – like a Bible, like silence, like the Mass – that the Church has used for 800 years to help people fall in love with Christ.

If you take out the beads and the repetition, what’s left is this:
“Let’s spend 20 minutes thinking about Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, asking His mother to help us see Him clearly.”

That’s not unbiblical. That’s Luke 2:19 “Mary kept all these things, pondering them in her heart.”
