Thought Fast: Day 40 — "I guess I’m just a dreamer.”
Said like it’s a personality flaw instead of a superpower.
Let’s clear that up—being a dreamer isn’t the problem. Aimless dreaming is. So by all means, dream big… just make sure the dream you’re clinging to isn’t something you thought up, but something aligned with God’s purpose for your life.
Take Joseph—certified dreamer, zero chill about sharing it. His dreams didn’t exactly win him “Brother of the Year” (hello, pit and prison), but here’s the twist: his character kept pace with his calling. Integrity, discipline, faith—those were the real engines behind the dream coming true.
So if you’re going to dream, don’t just stare at the stars—build the character to get there. Sometimes the dream isn’t just the destination; it’s the tool God uses to shape you on the way.
And let’s talk about the “waiting for magic” crowd. Dreams don’t typically show up like surprise packages on your doorstep. Believing in your dream means rolling up your sleeves, taking advice (yes, even the kind you don’t like), and steadily moving forward. If your dream is only about money or status, you might reach it --and you might be disappointed when you get there.
Instead, aim higher—be a world changer.
Too big? Maybe. Impossible? Not with the Holy Spirit.
You can reach your God given dream through one person, one action, one day at a time.
Small steps. Intentional choices. Consistent faith.
There will be other times when you sense His direction clearly—“this is the way, walk in it.” When that happens, don’t hesitate. Move.
But whatever you do—don’t stop dreaming.
The promise in Joel 2:28–29 reminds us: dreams and visions aren’t rare—they’re part of the calling. Young, old, doesn’t matter. You’re in that story.
So maybe your refrain starts to sound a little like Martin Luther King Jr.:
“I have a dream… I have a dream… I have a dream.”
You say it, you believe it, and you live it.
