Names matter. Pronouns matter. The words we use for one another, and the words we use for God, matter.

We commit ourselves to using the names and pronouns people use for themselves, because every human being is made in the image of God. And we commit ourselves to language for God that stretches beyond any single image, drawing on the rich imagery of Scripture: rock, fortress, shield, sheltering bird, fountain of living water.

Both commitments rest on the same conviction. God is bigger than our language, and so is every person made in God's image.

We're still dreaming of the glorious voices of the Cardinal Chorale who sang last Tuesday in Gloria Dei Worship Center!
Before their concert, members of the Chorale enjoyed a Capital University Campus Tour and a Hawaiian themed dinner buffet.
We are grateful for the partnership of Capital Unviersity Admissions, Elior Catering and Capital University Conservatory of Music for making this day possible.

Being At Work in the World certainly keeps us busy!

Last Weekend:
- Interim Dean Rachel Wrenn represented Trinity at the ELCA Northeastern Ohio Synod Assembly.
- Pastor Mary Ann reprsented Trinity at the Florida Bahamas Synod Assembly and at St. John Lutheran Church Philo, OH.
- Chaplain Dr. Kerstin Hedlund represented Trinity at Abiding Christ Lutheran Church in Fairborn, OH.

Hamma Library holds the archives for Trinity Lutheran Seminary. Sometimes, in looking for something unrelated, cool things are discovered.



The worship space at Hamma Divinity School, Wittenberg University, Springfield, Ohio.

In 1978, Hamma combined with Capital's seminary to form what is today Trinity Lutheran Seminary. The Hamma campus is long gone, but look closely at this photo and you'll see three pieces that made the journey east and are still part of Trinity.
On the right, the carved pulpit balustrade now lives in the Alumni Room. The stained glass window above the altar, depicting the closing words of Matthew 28:20, hangs in the atrium where the light still passes through it daily. And just visible on the far left, the eagle lectern. The platform is gone, but the eagle itself rests in Hamma Library, where it watches over the reading room and gives the space some of its character.

The library, of course, also carries the name forward. Hamma Library takes its name from this divinity school, and every time a student walks in to study, almost fifty years on, they walk into a small act of remembrance.

For Christ’s church at Work in the World

Trinity Master of Divinity student, Mark Littke, is completing his Clinical Pastoral Education this summer Here is Mark’s reflection on his experiences thus far:

"I, Mark Littke, am doing my CPE at a hospital focused on oncology, ortho, orthopedics and adult healthcare in Pittsburgh. My first unit of CPE is CPSP-accredited and lasts from June 1 through August 7. It has been an enlightening, challenging, and invigorating experience thus far. From one-on-one patient visits to group didactic meetings, my conversations with different people in this unique setting have been highly educational and spiritually formative. I look forward to discovering more about my pastoral identity as both chaplain and student."

At Trinity Lutheran Seminary, we are a Reconciling in Christ community. That means people of all sexual orientations, genders, gender identities, and gender expressions are welcome here as full participants in the life of the seminary and the life of the church. Not at the edges. Not with conditions. Fully.

For Christ’s Church at Work in the World

Trinity Master of Divinity student, Connor Przysiecki, has been completing his Clinical Pastoral Education at St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, OH. Here is Connor's reflection on his experiences thus far:

"I chose St. Vincent Medical Center, in Toledo, as the site for my CPE because of its rich history and deep commitment to the compassionate ministry of Jesus. At St. V's, an emphasis is placed on the spiritual and emotional well-being of patients and their loved ones. Chaplains here are not merely tangential to the healing process; their ultimate role is acting as shepherds to the interdisciplinary care team.

There is a deeply held sense of comradery and belonging at St. Vincent rooted in the belief that all people, especially those in need, are intrinsically valuable and deserving of dignity, compassion, respect, and most importantly, love.

As a level one trauma center in an urban environment, the community St. Vincent serves has been historically undervalued and underserved. The culture at St. V's centers around helping all of those in need—especially the poor and the dying.

I'm left with a sense of wonder and amazement. Not only am I able to bear witness to so much suffering, but I am entrusted with the responsibility to provide comfort and care to those who need it most. That is profoundly humbling, and I am so grateful for this opportunity that has been created for me at St. Vincent—to advocate for the one with no advocate; to console the inconsolable; and to unapologetically and unabashedly love God's people. "
