Please join us in welcoming The Rev. Dr. Miles Hopgood to our Trinity Lutheran Seminary faculty!

Rev. Dr. Hopgood joins us as Assistant Professor of Lutheran Theology and History. Dr. Hopgood earned his B.A. and M.Div. from the University of Chicago and his Ph.D. in History and Ecumenics from Theological Seminary. His research explores the exegesis of the Hebrew Bible in the sixteenth century, the theology of Martin Luther and its reception, and the history of Jewish-Christian relations. He is the author of How Luther Regards Moses: The Lectures on Deuteronomy (Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht, 2023). An ordained ELCA pastor, he served congregations in the New Jersey and Southeastern Pennsylvania synods before coming to Trinity, and he is passionate about forming wise leaders and critical thinkers for the church today.

Please join us in welcoming, The Rev. Dr. Ian McMichael, as University Pastor & Director of Religious & Spiritual Life!

Rev. Dr. Ian McMichael grew up in rural Oregon, the oldest of two and raised by two educators. He earned a BA in German Language and Literature from Pacific Lutheran University in 2013, where campus ministry and the student congregation played a pivotal role in his formation. Following a term teaching math with Teach For America on the Pine Ridge Reservation, he moved to Columbus to attend Trinity Lutheran Seminary, graduating in 2019. A 2019 Lutheran Educational Conference in North America (LECNA) Fellow, Ian focused his career on Lutheran higher education and completed a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Concordia University, St. Paul in 2025. He currently serves as University Pastor and Executive Director for Spiritual and Religious Life at Capital University. Ian lives in Bexley with his wife of eleven years, Corrin, and their two children, Hans (7) and Wren (6).

Please join us in welcoming The Rev. Dr. Kerstin Hedlund to our Trinity Lutheran Seminary faculty!

Rev. Dr. Hedlund will move from working as Trinity’s Director of Contextual Education to teaching in the role of Assistant Professor of Pastoral Care, Chaplaincy, and Worship in mid-August. Dr. Hedlund earned her M.Div. at Trinity Lutheran Seminary and her Ph.D. in Theology and Ethics from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. Dr. Hedlund is an ordained ELCA pastor and a chaplain in the army. She has previously served congregations as a pastor in Texas, Wisconsin, and Illinois, and she has served army units as a chaplain in Iraq and the United States. We are grateful that her gifts – already so evident in her work forming students for ministry in context – will now be shared with the community in this new capacity.

Please join us in welcoming Pastor Mary Ann Siefke to her new role as Director of Contextual Education & Community Life!

The Rev. Mary Ann Harris Siefke is a Lutheran pastor and connector of transformational relationships. Her ministry is shaped by a love for God and God's people. In this new role at Trinity Lutheran Seminary at Capital University Pastor Siefke will connect congregations, alumni, and friends to the mission of Forming Leaders for Christ’s church At Work in the World. Pastor Siefke is a frequent preacher in congregations, sharing the gospel with warmth, humor, and everyday examples that help people see the work of the Holy Spirit.
A graduate of Trinity Lutheran Seminary ('09, '16), Pastor Siefke carries forward a long Lutheran commitment to education that forms both the mind and the heart.
At the center of her work is a simple belief: “Life is relationships.”

Please join us in welcoming The Rev. Diandra M. Darby to our Trinity Lutheran Seminary faculty!

Rev. Darby joins us as Instructor of Homiletics. A preacher, scholar, and educator, Rev. Darby is committed to cultivating transformative preaching that promotes dignity, builds community, and advances justice in the Church and society. She holds an M.Div. from the Interdenominational Theological Center and a Th.M. from Princeton Theological Seminary. She is completing her Ph.D. at Emory University, where her dissertation examines resilience and redemptive self-love in Black women's preaching. Licensed to ministry in 2004 and ordained in 2014, she has devoted her vocational life to preaching, teaching, and leadership development.
