Second Baptist Church, would like to express our condolences to the family of Mrs. Anna M. King. Anna Mae King, 91, of Columbus, Indiana, entered into the presence of her Lord after a life marked by unwavering faith, compassionate service, and a deep love for family and community. Born in 1934 to Street Wayne Handley and Avonal Handley, Ann was a lifelong resident of Columbus. She graduated from Columbus schools, attended Indiana Business College, and married Benjamin King in the early 1950s. Together they built a home centered on faith, hospitality, and family. Ann devoted her career to serving others. She worked at Cummins on two occasions, retiring as a Personnel Counselor, where she guided employees through retirement with wisdom and kindness. She later became the welcoming face of United Way of Bartholomew County, serving as receptionist until retiring in 2019 at age 83. In recognition of her years of service, United Way named a room in her honor. Known for her impeccable style, Ann was remembered even more for her warmth, empathy, and genuine interest in others. She loved decorating for the holidays, hosting family dinners, and cooking from scratch. Her apple pie and potato salad were legendary family favorites. A lifelong member of Second Baptist Church, Ann faithfully served as a Trustee and member of the Ladies Bible Class. Her favorite scripture, Psalm 118:24 - This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." - guided her life with gratitude and joy. She is survived by her son, Ron King (Brenda) of Columbus; her daughter, Valerie King of Atlanta, Georgia; her grandson, Alex King of Indianapolis; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

The funeral will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Rev. Toby Branom officiating.

Family and friends may gather for a time of visitation from 10:00 a.m. to time of service.

Memorial contributions may be made to United Way of Bartholomew County or Second Baptist Church.

Mrs. King will be laid to rest next to her late husband at the Garland Brook Cemetery.
