Reading Bill Elliff's Simply Prayer again, I was reminded of Rosalind Rinker's book Prayer: Conversing with God (1959). It was the first book I read on prayer, given to me by my uncle Ralph Hopkins. The opening line of the Preface has become more meaningful to me as I learn more about prayer. "I have discovered that prayer’s real purpose is to put God at the center of our attention and forget ourselves and the impression we are making." Lord, teach me to pray.
