WHY ARE YOU SO AFRAID?
Friday, May 15, 2026
That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, "Let us go over to the other side." Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat so that it was nearly swamped. Mark 4:35-37
Do you wonder if there is any hope for your marriage to be rescued?
Are the winds blowing so hard in your storm that you feel like you will drown? Do not be afraid. Do you believe that Jesus, your Lord and Savior, can calm the stormy seas of marriage troubles for you? Cry out to the Lord and let Him calm the waves of circumstances.
Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, "Teacher, don't you care if we drown?" He got up, rebuked the wind, and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?" Mark 4:38-40
I understand the pain and fear that you go through when marriage problems start destroying a family. I understand the fear that can overwhelm you when you have no contact from your prodigal. But you must come to the point in your spiritual walk that you choose to believe in the power of Jesus.
If the Lord were to ask you the questions He asked his disciples, what would your answer be? Jesus asked his disciples two questions:
"Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?"
What are your answers to Him today?
The two scripture passages above remind me of the song, ‘Til the Storm Passes By. The words are so powerful:
Many times Satan whispered, "There is no need to try, For there's no end of sorrow, there's no hope by and by" But I know Thou art with me, and tomorrow I'll rise Where the storms never darken the skies.
Chorus: Till the storm passes over, till the thunder sounds no more, Till the clouds roll forever from the sky; Hold me fast, let me stand in the hollow of Thy hand, Keep me safe till the storm passes by.
Imagine the Lord Jesus calming the raging storms of divorce and separation that are tearing apart your home. You can believe in what God has said and what His Word says. You must take captive your thoughts and use discernment to determine whether they are from Jesus or the enemy. Jesus teaches us throughout the Bible to believe and have faith in God. Do you have faith? Do you remember what happened when Peter started to walk on water?
But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!" Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?" Matthew 14:30-31
There is only one name that can save every person. That name is Jesus. He is the only one who can calm your storm of marriage problems. The Holy Spirit is the one who can touch and change your spouse's heart and also increase your faith through this storm. He will protect you in the shelter of His wings. He knows what you are facing and is the only one who can calm your fears and anxieties.
Do you have faith? In one of my teachings, "Are Your Prayers Working?" I discussed 18 hindrances to prayer. One of them is a lack of faith. That is just what Jesus was saying to His disciples. Will you choose to walk in faith? You only need faith the size of a mustard seed, but you must stop doubting with unbelief.
Will you walk in faith and not be afraid?
God bless,
