Vital Connections Ministry is the publishing name of Michael Ray Thornton. Our goal is to provide biblical, conservative resources to our friends and churches with the goal of aiding them in growing in the Lord Jesus Christ. We are sent out by our wonderful church family at West Black Creek Baptist Church near Sumrall, Mississippi. Our pastor is Elder Brent King. We want to share with the "Generations to come" the praises of God and His marvelous Word.

The Prayer Of Cyrus Brown

"The proper way for a man to pray,"
Said Deacon Lemuel Keyes,
"And the only proper attitude
Is down upon his knees."

"No, I should say the way to pray,"
Said Rev. Doctor Wise,
"Is standing straight with outstretched arms
And rapt and upturned eyes."

"Oh, no; no, no," said Elder Slow,
"Such posture is too proud:
A man should pray with eyes fast closed
And head contritely bowed."

"It seems to me his hands should be
Austerely clasped in front.
With both thumbs pointing toward the ground,"
Said Rev. Doctor Blunt.

"Las' year I fell in Hodgkin's well
Head first," said Cyrus Brown,
"With both my heels a-stickin' up,
My head a-pointing down;

"An' I made a prayer right then an' there -
Best prayer I ever said,
The prayingest prayer I ever prayed,
A-standing on my head."

Five Benefits from Studying Proverbs

Proverbs 1:2-6 (KJV)

2 To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;
1) DEVELOPING PERCEPTION

3 To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;
2) TREATING OTHERS WITH GRACE

4 To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.
3) MAKING RIGHT DECISIONS

5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:
4) INCREASE THAT LASTS

6 To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.
5) SEEING DEEPER TRUTH

Practical Profit from Reading Proverbs

1. REPETITION is Necessary. Cover this territory with daily strolls. I like to read the chapter that corresponds to the day of the month.
2. CONCENTRATION is Simple. On your daily stroll simply stop to observe more closely those flowers that grab your attention.
3. PRESENTATION is Essential. Pick a flower to display to others. Wisdom was meant to be shared. In so doing you gain insight and enhance the lives of others with God’s wisdom.
