We are so excited to meet you this welcome week, and pray that Campus Lutheran Church and the Gathering become a second home for you here in Columbia!! We’d like to welcome you to town at our annual ice cream social hosted by the congregation 6-8pm (come and go whenever)!! Come hungry for both ice cream and fellowship!!

In one week, we’ll be starting off the semester with our first event! Our annual tabling in Speaker’s Circle is getting an upgrade with Dirty Sodas and Ice Cream Treats!! We cannot wait to meet you on Wednesday August 19th 11am-1pm, and at regular tabling on Thursday and Friday (stay tuned for times)!!

Today was our fifth and final day of VBS in Anchor Point. Over the past five days we’ve done crafts, shared Bible stories, sang about God’s glory, and watched amazing demonstrations of God’s strength and the love He has for us.

To me, the most incredible thing about this week has been witnessing people of all ages come together to worship and share their love for God.

When I was a kid, I often struggled with feeling too young to truly be a part of the church, and believed my role wasn’t that important. Remembering these feelings now makes me wonder if young kids, such as those we had the pleasure to see at Vacation Bible School this week, feel the same.

However, the Bible shows that children are actually one of the most valuable parts of a church’s community, often including them as powerful examples of faith. Stories such as Matthew 19:13-15, when Jesus reprimanded his disciples for trying to keep children away from him (“Let the little children come to me…”), affirm that children are vital members of the church.

This week has shown me firsthand how kids can worship and participate just as much as adults can. The kids at Anchor Point wrote prayers, described where they had seen God’s love in their lives, sang along to the music, and were equally as involved as us volunteers. They proved that every person, no matter their age, is an important part of the Church.

In many ways, these past few days of Vacation Bible School showed me how everyone, even the youngest kids can participate, learn, grow, and contribute to form one Church under Christ!

Weeks such as these are what continues to bring the Campus Lutheran team back to Anchor Point every year, and I am overjoyed that I had the opportunity to experience it. Thank you to everyone who made this possible and for all of the prayers and support to our team over the past few weeks.
