A prideful heart can outrun His pursuit.

Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. (Proverbs 16:18)

One of the worst sins in the Bible, outside of idolatry, is the sin of pride, arrogance, and self-centeredness. This is a heart position that elevates your own self above all else, with no regard to others, to honoring the Lord, or keeping His commandments.

Pride is sin. (Proverbs 21:4)
Pride is something the Lord hates. (Proverbs 8:13)
Pride is opposed by the Lord. (James 4:6)
Pride is an abomination to the Lord. (Proverbs 16:5)
Pride causes the wicked to say "There is no God" (Psalm 10:4)
Pride will be destroyed by the Lord. (Isaiah 13:11)

In a nutshell, pride causes us to run away from the Lord and His desires for our life. And while the Lord does pursue us and calls us to repentance, a prideful heart can run so fast that it cannot hear that calling.

But there is good news! The moment that we put on the breaks and stop running, the Lord will be right there and crash into us. He is never far away, we just have to stop chasing our own desires and humble ourselves so that we can experience His embrace.

But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” (James 4:6)

The reward for humility and fear of the Lord is riches and honor and life. (Proverbs 22:4)

For the Lord takes pleasure in his people; he adorns the humble with salvation. (Psalm 149:4)

It is only by God’s grace we have been saved.

It’s a struggle, we are wired to believe we have to earn our salvation.

By God’s grace
We have been saved

He did the work so we can walk the life He called us for.
