🏠 More Than a House — A Partnership That Reaches Families

As we prepare for this Saturday’s GO Event with Reconciliation Ministries, we want to share a little more about why these properties matter.

Reconciliation Ministries partners with four other nonprofit organizations, leasing homes to those organizations so they can, in turn, provide affordable housing opportunities for families they serve.

The arrangements may look different from family to family, but the goal is the same: helping provide safe, affordable housing for people who need it.

That means when our Second Saturday volunteers show up this weekend to work across several of these properties, the impact reaches much further than the repairs we complete.

We’re helping care for homes.
We’re supporting fellow nonprofits.
And ultimately, we’re helping create places where families can live, grow, and move forward. ❤️

That’s what we love about partnerships like this. One organization doesn’t have to do everything—we can each bring what God has given us and serve our neighbors together.

We can't wait to get to work Saturday! 🔨🏠

🔨 THIS SATURDAY: A NEW GO EVENT! 🙌

This Saturday, Second Saturday is excited to partner with Reconciliation Ministries right here in Columbia!

Reconciliation Ministries is a Christ-centered ministry helping individuals overcome addiction and experience freedom, hope, healing, and restoration. Their work is about more than meeting immediate needs—it’s about seeing lives transformed through the Gospel.

And this weekend, we get to come alongside them. ❤️

Our volunteers will be spread across several neighboring properties, tackling multiple projects throughout the morning. Different homes. Different projects. One team coming together with one purpose—to serve others and put our faith into action.

We’re excited about this partnership, excited about the work ahead, and especially excited to see what God does when two ministries come together to serve our community.

Stay tuned—we’ll be sharing plenty from Saturday’s GO Event! 🔨🏠❤️

Neighbors helping neighbors. Love in action.

Serving With Willing Hands

Today, we celebrate the value of hard work—and at Second Saturday, we are especially grateful for those who choose to use their skills, strength, time, and talents to serve others.

We’ve watched carpenters, contractors, electricians, landscapers, church groups, families, students, and volunteers of every skill level roll up their sleeves and get to work for a neighbor who needed a helping hand.

Some bring years of experience. Others simply bring willing hands and a heart ready to serve.

Every board replaced, ramp built, yard cleared, wall repaired, and project completed reminds us what can happen when people are willing to work together for the good of someone else. 🛠️🏠

This Labor Day, we’re thankful for every hardworking person who has given their time to the mission of Second Saturday.

đź’™ Sunday Scripture | Psalm 34:18

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18

In light of this past week and the heartbreaking loss of Officer Christopher DeLong, these words carry an especially powerful reminder.

Our community has watched a family, a police department, fellow first responders, and so many others walk through tremendous grief. And in moments when there simply aren’t enough words, Scripture reminds us of something we can hold onto: God draws near to the brokenhearted.

At Second Saturday, we often talk about loving our neighbors through service. But loving our neighbors also means mourning with those who mourn, praying for those who are hurting, and standing beside our community during the difficult days.

This Sunday, we continue to remember Officer DeLong and pray for his family, his fellow officers, and all those grieving his loss.

May they know the nearness, comfort, and peace of the Lord in the days ahead. đź’™

đź’™ International Day of Charity | Love in Action

Charity isn’t only about writing a check.

Sometimes it looks like picking up a hammer.
Giving up a Saturday morning.
Donating materials.
Sharing a skill.
Providing a meal.
Or simply showing up when a neighbor needs a helping hand.

At Second Saturday, we get to see what happens when people choose to give what they have—their time, talents, resources, and hearts—to serve someone else.

On International Day of Charity, we’re especially grateful for every volunteer, donor, church, business, contractor, and community partner who makes this mission possible.

Together, we’re doing more than repairing homes. We’re loving our neighbors and putting that love into action. 🏠💙

đź’™ New Month. New Opportunity to Serve.

September is here, and that means another opportunity to come together and love our neighbors through action.

Our next Second Saturday GO Event is September 12, and we’re getting ready for another morning of volunteers showing up with willing hands and hearts to serve.

Whether you’re handy with tools or simply willing to help, there’s a place for you. Every project is an opportunity to meet a real need, build relationships, and remind a neighbor that their community cares.

đź’™ How Can You Help?

Over the past several days, our community has come together to surround the Columbia Police Department following the loss of Officer Christopher DeLong and the injury of Officer David Dymock.

At Second Saturday, we believe deeply in showing up for our neighbors when they need us most. Right now, that means standing alongside our friends at Frontline Faith Chaplains as they continue to care for and support the first responders walking through this tragedy.

Many have asked, “How can we help?”

🙏 Continue praying for Officer DeLong’s family, Officer Dymock and his recovery, and the entire CPD family.

💙 Stand behind organizations like Frontline Faith that are present with our first responders—not only during the immediate crisis, but throughout the difficult days that follow.

And for those wishing to financially support the officers and their families, donations can be made through Serve & Connect’s official Tragedy Response Program.

Support the families through Serve & Connect

Our missions may look different, but we share a calling to love our neighbors, show up when people are hurting, and remind them they don't have to walk through hard seasons alone.

Frontline Faith, we stand with you. CPD, we stand with you. đź’™

đź’™ Grateful to See Officer Dymock Going Home

In the midst of a heartbreaking weekend for our law enforcement community, we are incredibly grateful to see Officer David Dymock released from the hospital and heading home to continue his recovery. 🙏💙

Second Saturday stands alongside our friends at Frontline Faith Chaplains as they continue to support Officer Dymock, his family, and the Columbia Police Department in the days ahead.

We know that going home doesn't mean the journey is over. Physical wounds need time to heal, and the emotional weight of experiencing such a traumatic event while losing a fellow officer and friend can last far beyond what others can see.

That's why showing up matters. Community matters. Faith matters.

We are thankful Frontline Faith is there to walk alongside our first responders through both the visible and invisible parts of healing—and Second Saturday is proud to stand with them.

Officer Dymock, we are so grateful to see you going home. We will continue praying for your healing, your family, and the entire CPD family as they remember and mourn Officer Christopher DeLong. đź’™

Today, our hearts are with our law enforcement family. đź’™

Second Saturday stands alongside Frontline Faith Chaplains and our community as we mourn the loss of Columbia Police Officer Christopher DeLong.

Officer DeLong was more than the badge he wore. He was a son, a brother, a friend, a husband, and a father to two young children. He was a man who was deeply loved, and his loss is felt far beyond the walls of the Columbia Police Department.

Our missions may look different, but at the heart of both Second Saturday and Frontline Faith is the same calling: to love our neighbors, to show up when people are hurting, and to walk alongside one another through the hard places.

We are praying for Officer DeLong's family, his fellow officers, the injured officer and their family, and every first responder carrying the weight of this loss.

To our friends at Frontline Faith and our brothers and sisters in law enforcement—we stand with you. 💙

Officer Christopher DeLong, we honor your service and your sacrifice.
