Now you see Mrs. Laura's back porch...now you don't. 👀🔨

When we first visited Mrs. Laura's home, it became clear that her back porch had become unsafe. While we weren't able to build a brand-new porch during the GO Event, we knew we couldn't leave the hazard behind.

So, we got to work.

We carefully tore down the deteriorating porch and cleared the area, making her backyard as safe as we could. Sometimes the biggest act of love isn't building something new—it's removing the thing that's putting someone at risk.

At Second Saturday, our mission is to help ensure homes are warm, safe, and dry. The work isn't always glamorous, and it doesn't always come with dramatic before-and-after photos, but making someone's home safer is always worth it.

One step at a time. One project at a time. One neighbor at a time.

"Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people." – Ephesians 6:7

At Second Saturday, praying in and praying out is not something we take lightly. In fact, it's the most important part of our day.

Before the first tool is picked up, before the first board is cut, before the first project begins, we stop and pray. We ask God to guide our hands, soften our hearts, and remind us why we're there.

And when the work is finished, we gather again in prayer—thanking Him for what He's done, lifting up the homeowner, our volunteers, and remembering that every act of service is ultimately for His glory.

Projects matter. Repairs matter. But keeping God first matters most.

Because we aren't just serving people. We are serving wholeheartedly, as unto the Lord.

Remember Ms. Tia and her dad, Mr. Athel, from our May GO Event?

One thing we've learned at Second Saturday is that ministry doesn't always fit neatly into a single Saturday morning.

Sometimes, needs take a little longer. Sometimes, projects require extra time, materials, or hands. And sometimes, we go back.

Mr. Athel had been waiting for a wheelchair ramp that would give him safer and easier access to his home. We're excited to share that he finally got it.

This is what Second Saturday is all about. Not just checking a project off a list, but seeing it through until the need is met. Because loving our neighbors means showing up again and again if that's what it takes.

We're grateful for the volunteers and supporters who make moments like this possible.

Because the work doesn't always end when the GO Event does.

This past Saturday, 54 people showed up at Mrs. Laura's GO Event—the most volunteers we have ever had at a Second Saturday GO Event.

When we asked you to show up, you showed up.

You gave up your Saturday morning to serve, to work, to pray, to encourage, and to love your neighbor in a tangible way. Because of your willingness, Mrs. Laura was reminded that she is not alone and that there is a community ready to stand beside her.

Second Saturday has never been about projects. It's about people. It's about being the hands and feet of Jesus.

Fifty-four volunteers. One mission. A powerful reminder that when God's people answer the call to serve, lives are impacted and communities are strengthened.

You know what else comes with volunteering at our GO Events? The Chuck Wagon! 🌮🍔

While we're busy serving at Mrs. Laura's house—taking down the back deck, building a wheelchair ramp, painting, and tackling the many projects ahead—Chuck, our in-house chef, will be hard at work preparing a meal for everyone. By the time the projects are finished and the tools are put away, the Chuck Wagon will be ready to welcome hungry volunteers.

There's something special about gathering around the table after a day of serving. It's a chance to share stories, build friendships, and enjoy the fellowship that grows when people come together to love their neighbors well.

Come and join us! Lend a hand with the projects, then stay for the food and fellowship afterward. We'd love to serve alongside you.
