Bethel Church

Bethel Church Join us for worship on Sunday at 10:30 am. We work together to "BE THE Love of Christ" to each other and the world

Core Values
The most cherished beliefs and principles that guide this church. Core Values
Inclusion
• Love is our greatest value and resisting exclusion is a primary focus of our ministry. We want to continue to be the conduits of a faith where everyone is included in the family of God, and where all parts of our being are welcomed at God’s table. Discipleship
• Offering a safe and op

en community for people to worship, learn and grow in their faith is our deep desire. We are committed to equipping each other and ourselves as we grow spiritually as disciples of Christ and to do the work that God has called us to do in the world. Mission
• Working as individuals and the church body in applying our faith and in sharing the Gospel message around the corner and the world. Mission is an awesome invitation and responsibility, and an endeavor that can never be exhausted. We undertake it realizing that only with God’s help can the immense task of Christian mission be accomplished. Care and Nurturing Community
• A place where we support each other physically, emotionally and spiritually. Spiritual Transformation
• Providing a message of liberation from the oppressive religious environment of our day or to those experiencing God for the first time is what guides our ministry. Social Action
• To live as Christ taught by working to talk less, listen and do more, we are committed to resist the structures that oppress people and stand with those who suffer under the weight of oppressive systems, being guided always by our commitment to human rights. Creation Care
• As Christians we are called to care for the God’s Earth and its creatures. We dedicate ourselves to the care and restoration of our resources to place less burden on God’s creation.

TOMORROW AT BETHEL!! EVERYONE IS WELCOME!!
Andrew Alka, will be leading our choir and congregational singing and sing a solo as the candidate for our director of music ministry. Andrew will graduate from MU’s music education program in May and is already slated to begin as the assistant choral director of vocal music at Jefferson City High School in the fall. Andrew’s start date with us would be August 2nd. Plan to be a part of worship and hear more about Andrew and affirm him as our new director of music ministry!

Tomorrow during the Sunday School hour at 9:30, Kristy Engel’s friends, Tanya and Tony Nagy will be at Bethel to share with us their experiences of living in the Ukraine. They have been traveling in the US sharing their stories. We will host them in the sanctuary to accommodate more of us than the Omer Lay room will hold. Kristy is generously sharing these good friends from the Ukraine with us, and we look forward to meeting them and hearing their experiences.

This is link Pastor Robin shared to follow along to the virtual labyrinth.

Relax, listen to the music, and follow the circle as it progresses through the labyrinth. It is not a maze, so you can’t get lost and don’t need to look for the right path – there is only one. You can simply quietly follow the path imagining you are in God’s presence or you can repeat a phrase like, “God is good,” or “Help me, God,” or “Be still.”

Have you picked up your copy of An Altar in the World: A Geography of Faith? Lenten practice groups just started this week! There is still time to join a group! The group times and places are

Sundays during the 9:30 Sunday School hour

Tuesdays at 6:30 at Bethel and on Zoom

Thursdays at 5:30 on Zoom

The author, Barbara Brown Taylor, has written an interesting book about faith practices with short, interesting chapters. We will focus on the first six chapters. Lent is a perfect time to work on deepening your faith, and we need community to stay grounded with the way things are changing so fast that we can’t keep up!

Tomorrow is Steve Jannetti’s last Sunday with us. We have appreciated Steve's leadership serving as Bethel's director of music and he will be greatly missed! We want to wish him well and give him a good sendoff on his last Sunday. Join us after worship for a farewell reception. You are welcome to bring a card for him to express your appreciation for his time with us. There will be a basket in the foyer.

Sundays during the Sunday School hour at 9:30 a.m. in the Omer Lay classroom

Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. on Zoom

Lent will be here before we know it. Ash Wednesday is on February 18, and we will have a service at 4:30. The author, Barbara Brown Taylor, has written an interesting book about faith practices, like “carrying water” and “getting lost,” which are not exactly practices we’ve heard of before now. The plan is to read about the practice we talk about on Sunday and then meet to talk about it the following week. The chapters are short and interesting! The groups will last for 6 weeks (until Easter, April 5) unless your group decides to continue with the rest of the book together. Pastor Robin is encouraging everyone in the church to sign up for a group. Lent is a perfect time to work on deepening your faith, and we need community to stay grounded with the way things are changing so fast that we can’t keep up!

Sunday School and Worship Cancelled This Sunday: We will not gather in person again this Sunday! In light of the weather predicted to hit starting tonight (Friday) and lasting through Monday – extreme cold and several inches of snow – we thought it wise to cancel in-person gathering for Sunday. Pastor Robin – if she can figure out how to do it on YouTube – will lead us in prayer and scripture reading and a devotional thought at 10:30 CT, Sunday. If she’s really good, she might even figure out how to add a hymn! Stay safe and warm and pray for those who must be out in this weather!

Sunday School and Service Cancelled this Sunday January 18th due to cold temperatures. Our policy has been that if the feels-like temperature is less than 10 degrees by 9:00 on Sunday morning, we will not meet. Sunday’s feels-like wind-chill temperature is predicted to be below 10 degrees until the afternoon. Stay home and stay warm and we will see you on the following Sunday, January 25th!
