Bet Aviv

Bet Aviv Bet Aviv is a Reform Jewish congregation in Columbia, MD founded on the commitment to Columbia's interfaith concept.

Bet Aviv is a Reform Jewish congregation of adult members founded on our commitment to Columbia’s interfaith concept. We are an inclusive and caring community that strives to meet the spiritual, religious, educational, and social needs of our members through worship, study, service to our community and social activities. A warm, friendly, committed community, we offer a wide variety of activities

that encourage congregants to stay connected and involved. We respect diversity and welcome couples and singles, those in interfaith relationships, and nontraditional families. Our services are led by Rabbi Seth Bernstein and Cantor Linda Baer. Shabbat Services are held twice a month at the Oakland Mills Interfaith Center. Bet Aviv holds services every other Friday night at 8 p.m.

FYI...about Comfort Cases

We're sure you've seen the viral meme about donating used suitcases to children in foster care so they don't have to carry their things in a trash bag. We've been overwhelmed by the number of people who have reached out to us to donate their used suitcases. While we appreciate the offers, we only give new items to children in foster care. It's about dignity and letting kids know that they matter, that they are worthy of new items to call their very own. We also do not give suitcases because they are too large to store and ship to partner agencies across the country. Instead, we have a Comfort XL program that provides a 32" duffel bag that is compact enough for social workers and police officers to keep in their cars or offices. When they have to remove a child from a home, they can reach for a Comfort XL instead of a trash bag. If you want to provide a new bag for a child in foster care, you can become a Bag Buster for just $10 a month! Click the link in our bio for a list of ways you can support our mission to eliminate trash bags and give children in foster care a sense of dignity and hope.

The Bet Aviv Choir is busy preparing for the High Holiday Services. Do you like to sing? We are always looking for more singers for our choir. You do not have to read music but as long as you can carry a tune, we would love to have you join us. We meet most second and fourth Sundays of each month from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM (always subject to change) and the schedule is in What’s Nu. If you have an interest, contact Ira Singer at [email protected] or just show up to a rehearsal to see what we do! You’ll have a great time!

While in Israel, Bet Aviv travelers volunteered at Pantry Packers. This organization provides essential aid to those in need. Leave it to Neal Green to find a way for Bet Avivers to continue our tradition of Tikkun Olam while away from the USA.
