HER PORTRAIT HANGS WITHIN THE ETERNAL HALLS OF FAITH
Sis. Brittany Chisholm was used mightily by the Lord, but didn’t realize it. For the past 10 years, she valiantly battled cancer, and refused to look at the odds against her. In 2013, we decided to feature Brittany’s testimony on our church website, and entitled it: “Back From the Dead”. The testimony featured one of Brittany’s bouts with cancer in which doctors declared her “BRAIN DEAD”. The cancer had spread all over her body, and she was swollen, unresponsive, and on the ventilator. But miraculously, the Lord raised her back up, and he began re-growing her colon, a true medical miracle. The impact from Brittany’s testimony resulted in thousands of views on our website for the 3.5 years in which we featured it. We would pass out cards to the community, and encourage them to read or listen to Brittany’s testimony on the website. Many people who heard about the miracle wept tears of joy; some spoke in unknown tongues; some just smiled. But just to know that there was still a God who could heal such an incurable condition which has been feared by so many was something that was deemed rare in such an age of rampant unbelief! From the time Brittany stepped into the ring to fight this disease, she had declared victory, and knew she would overcome because of her faith and favor with God. Year after year for the past ten years, Brittany would be in and out of the hospital, again waging war with the complications related to the cancer demon that dared her to live a normal life. Brittany refused to concede the fight---- Even in the instances when she coded and was resuscitated, she laughed in the Devil’s face as she cheated death yet once again. Brittany never let the condition hinder her praise and faith in God. She set out to enjoy life and ended up getting married 4 years ago. Her love for her husband, her new married life, and her relationship with God were her main focus. It was only recently that the cancer reared its ugly head one final time. The doctors again declared that Brittany could not live because the cancer had spread to the lungs, and impeded her ability to breathe. Desperate for victory, Brittany decided that the only way to win was to do the opposite of what anyone could imagine: EMBRACE her most FORMIDABLE foe---DEATH. So on last Thursday, Brittany chose to walk into the jaws of death and settle the fight once and for all---knowing that she would emerge victorious on the other side, having received the perfect body that she so earnestly desired.
Brittany displayed the ultimate courage, and I really admire her for it. Because at age 30, she chose to die on her own terms--- She looked death right into the face and refused to fear the one event that most people dread to think about. She so bravely said, “O death, where is your sting? O grave, where is your victory? Brittany was so smart to choose to live by dying---And by doing so, she has not only overcome EVERY sickness in this life, but has received eternal life once and for all.
When the disciples asked Jesus about the blind man: “Lord, who did sin, this man or his parents? “Jesus answered, “No one, but that the works of God may be made manifest”. Brittany did not enjoy suffering--- NO ONE does. But I believe that God may have ordained her suffering and victories to glorify him. I have seen more miracles during Brittany’s fight with cancer, than in all of my entire 28 years of walking with the Lord. We all have been put here for a purpose, and once we serve that purpose, God has made sure that we will depart this life to receive our reward. Brittany will be sorely missed, but I can’t help but think that she is smiling at us from the heavenly dimension while enjoying her new reward!!! bliss
