Jesus’ Words of Anger

"When Jesus entered the temple courts, he began to drive out those who were selling. ‘It is written,’ he said to them, ‘“My house will be a house of prayer”; but you have made it a “den of robbers.”’” (Luke 19:45-46, NIV)

During the week of Passover, thousands of people were coming to the temple to make sacrifices and pray. Many of the people traveling would need to first convert their money to a local currency and then purchase an acceptable animal sacrifice (bird, lamb, etc.).

Imagine Jesus walking around the last street corner before the temple, and suddenly before him is a fleet of tables lining the temple courts with crowds of people bustling around them. What was intended as a house of prayer had become a variety market for spiritual products to be bought and sold.

Do you ever feel like we turn Christianity into a market?

Enraged at the temple “strip mall,” Jesus begins flipping tables over and kicking out all the religious retail vendors.

"Every day he was teaching at the temple. But the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the leaders among the people were trying to kill him. Yet they could not find any way to do it, because all the people hung on his words.” (Luke 19:47-48, NIV)

People needed to change their money. People needed to make sacrifices. Those weren’t the problem. The problem was that the temple had become a storefront. Once Jesus cleared out all the marketing confusion around the temple, he then began to teach the people.
Once the distractions of a spiritual market were swept away, people were “hanging on every word he spoke.”
The weeks leading up to Easter are historically a time when people simplify life and focus on Jesus. Let’s do that together. I am asking myself these questions to remove the clutter of my life:

How have I let religious goods get in the way of hearing Jesus?

What things are distracting me from hearing Jesus’ voice?

Take some time to imagine Jesus clearing out your heart and mind. Ask him to prepare you to hear him speaking to you in a fresh way as you move through this journey and through this Easter week. Ask Jesus to clear out your life so that you can “hang on every word he speaks.” Now, you are ready to hear.

Let’s pray together:

Jesus, I am listening. Clear away the clutter, and speak to me. Amen.

You are a miracle!

God Gives Good Gifts

There are seasons in our lives that are far more discouraging than encouraging. It's inevitable that all of us will experience those moments, and it's often in the face of insurmountable grief or heartbreaking experiences.

But Romans 15:5 reminds us that there are three things God gives to those who believe in Jesus. The first is that God gives endurance. When we begin to grow tired of doing good things, or living our lives for God, it's often because we are living with the wrong motivation.

True motivation comes from living for God, not ourselves. It is God who gives us the endurance—through His Spirit—to make good choices and live for Him.

The second thing God gives us is encouragement. In seasons of discouragement, when we feel let down by other people, God gives us lasting encouragement. He reminds us that we are loved. That we are being transformed. That He can use all things for our good and His glory. We don’t need to strive for approval or acceptance because we’re already sons and daughters of God.

The third thing we can ask God to give us is unity of mind toward each other. This means that we consider how Jesus thinks of and looks at others, and try to do the same. Instead of seeing their flaws or mistakes, we see them as people loved and cared for by God. We should work towards unity with each other rather than division.

All three of these things are worth bringing before God in prayer: endurance, encouragement, and unity with each other.

If you’re feeling tired and want to quit, ask God for the endurance to continue doing good for those around you. If you’re feeling discouraged and down, ask God for encouragement that only He can give. And above all, ask God for the same heart and mind of Jesus that brings us together in unity, rather than division.

“The Fight every Christian Face”

We face many injustices, abuses in our communities, in our homes, families and abroad. We are attacked by the enemy to give up on our faith in Christ and fellow believers.
The enemy places thoughts in our mind that no one ever changes or is able to change which causes many to give up hope.
Fight the evil that you face, that’s knocking at your door. Don’t turn your back to or it will take you out. Trust God to give you what you need, he has provided what we need to fight against the enemy, so prepare yourself with the whole armor of God.
Forgive yourself and others, confess your faults and repent.

Trust God!!! Stand boldly upon His Word. Walk in faith and obedience. Love and give of yourselves wholeheartedly not expecting anything back.

Today is the day of Salvation. Choose this day whom you will serve. Tomorrow is not promised.

Every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
