Current Sermon Series: “Here Today”

This Pentecost season, we’re diving into the book of Acts to rediscover the purpose of the church and ask an important question:

❔❔Why are We Here Today?

Church consultant Win Arn once surveyed members from nearly a thousand churches and asked, “Why does the church exist?”

‼️ 89% answered: “The church’s purpose is to take care of my family’s and my needs.”
Only 11% said: “The purpose of the church is to win the world for Jesus Christ.”

For many, the church has become a place of comfort instead of a movement of mission. But in Acts, we see something different, a Spirit-filled church sent into the world with purpose, power, and passion.

Pentecost reminds us that the church was never meant to simply survive, it was born to transform the world. Join Blue River Community Church for Here Today as we explore what it means to be the church today, empowered by the Holy Spirit and called to make Christ known.

🖍️📙🚸TEACHER APPRECIATION 📗🖌️💜

This week we spent time putting together snacks and notes for local school staff. A simple way to say we see the work, the energy, and the care that goes into showing up for students everyday.

To every teacher, aide, office staff member, and bus driver: THANK YOU! You make our community a better place.

We wrapped up our Living Waters sermon series outside this past Sunday, and it couldn’t have been more fitting. Surrounded by creation, we were reminded that Jesus quenches our thirst and offers something deeper: renewal, grace, and new life. 🌳

And we had the joy of celebrating baptism; a beautiful picture of that new life, lived out in community.

Incredibly grateful for mornings like this 💙

You’re welcome to join as we kick off a new sermon series this weekend: Here Today

Last night at First Fridays, we set up a simple question:

➡️ “What do you love most about Columbia City?”

We created a gratitude wall because we believe that connection starts with noticing the good and sharing it out loud. It turned into something really meaningful. ✨ Conversations sparked, neighbors connected, and people paused to reflect with appreciation for this place that we call home.

Take a minute to zoom in and read the answers. They’re worth it. 📝

What would you add to the wall? Drop your answer in the comments 👇

We’re already looking ahead to next month’s question, and we’d love for you to be a part of it!

Shout out to the below who got mentioned on the gratitude wall. You’re appreciated! (FB would only let us tag 10!)

As part of our April Justice Mission (Creation Care), Blue River Community Church was glad to support Columbia City Connect and be one small part of the downtown cleanup. Creation Care is one of the ways we love our neighbors, and showing up together makes it even more meaningful.

Thank you to everyone who gave their time and energy to help our community shine! And thank you to Casa Balbina for the delicious food! 👩‍🌾🪏🪴
