Pride Weekend with Prairie šŸ³ļøā€šŸŒˆ
A huge thank you to everyone who worshipped with us, marched alongside us, and stopped by our Pride booth! With 20 volunteers in the parade and another 20 at our booth, we spent the weekend spreading kindness, making buttons, and celebrating Pride with a true Prairie energy. We are so grateful for our community and the way that our people show up for inclusivity and love!

Pub Theology Begins (and continues!!) šŸŽ‰
Our inaugural Pub Theology gathering was a meaningful evening of conversation, reflection, and community. Pub Theology is a time where people gather over food and drinks to ponder big questions of faith, life, meaning, and the world around us. Vange Perryman led the evening by introducing theological themes and ideas, then offered related questions for people to discuss in smaller groups.

Join us on select Tuesdays (6/23, 6/30, 7/14, 7/28, 8/11) from 6:30–8 pm as we gather at different pubs for conversation, connection, and a little theological exploration in a relaxed setting. Hosted by Vange Perryman. You’re invited to come enjoy community—and maybe a cocktail, mocktail, wine, or spirit—as the Spirit moves among us in conversation. You may arrive as early as 5:30 if you would like to order food and/or drinks. Pub address will be given after signing up. Sign up at the connect tables!

In June, we joyfully celebrated the baptisms of Charlet and Laila McLaughlin, who were also confirmed and welcomed as members of Prairie UMC. With water and Spirit, we proclaimed God’s enduring truth over them: that they are beloved, claimed, and forever part of God’s family. We give thanks for these youth and for the Spirit who is still moving among us.

It was a special recent morning at Prairie as we welcomed folks from the FUMC church planting core team who helped launch Prairie seven years ago. Rev. Steve and Ingrid Burnett, along with Randy and Jeanne Stiles, shared heartfelt memories from those early days—when a small but faithful group began planning long before the church opened. They reflected on the challenges and joys along the way, including gathering during Covid, hearing sermons preached from the back of a truck, and eventually celebrating the incredible milestone of chartering.

And what a joy it was that original core team members, Mary and Bill Rowan, flew in from Nevada just for this celebration to bless us with a surprise appearance!

Rev. Eric Strader’s message reminded us that Prairie is made up of people from many different backgrounds and traditions—Catholic, non denominational, Methodist, and more—but that our differences are not what define us. What brings us together is a shared desire to be part of a welcoming community centered on the love of Christ. Watch the sermon and service here.

Finally, as you can see in the video, Prairie expressed our deep gratitude to the people of FUMC. Co-Lay Leader Jerry Oyer presented Jeanne Stiles flowers as a small sign of our deep appreciation to all of FUMC. And then FUMC’s lay leader Shawn Teagen spoke closing words, ending with words of encouragement for Prairie’s ministry. You can watch a video of these moments here.

The Mountain Sky Conference is celebrating a joyful new chapter for Prairie UMC in Colorado Springs, which has officially been chartered as a United Methodist congregation.
This milestone is a beautiful sign of hope, courage, and faithful ministry taking root in the Colorado Springs community. We give thanks for the pastors, lay leaders, members, neighbors, and ministry partners who have helped nurture Prairie into this important moment.
Prairie’s story reminds us that the Spirit is still at work — forming communities where people can find belonging, purpose, connection, and the love of Christ.
Congratulations, Prairie UMC! Thanks be to God for the Spirit at work among us.

A Chartering Celebration with Bishop Stoneking!

Joy filled the space as Prairie celebrated our chartering with Bishop Kristin in a bright burst of color.

Rainbow bread for communion offered a beautiful symbol of God’s love for the diversity and color woven throughout creation.

Our co-lay leader, Corey Kidwell, reflected on how Prairie’s coming to be and thriving has been a true ā€œmoonshotā€ā€”a bold, unlikely dream made possible through courage and faith—and then led us in a liturgy of gratitude for Pastor Patty and Bishop Stoneking.

We also celebrated Prairie’s 7th birthday on May 31. In honor of that, our Missions & Justice Team invited donations for ā€œMy First Apartmentā€ kits (which included mops, dishes, towels, pots and pans, etc.) for young adults from The Place who are moving from being unhoused into their first homes. Everyone who donated was entered into a raffle, and when Lacey's name was drawn, she had the honor of blowing out the candle on our cake. Thanks to your generosity, Prairie UMC was able to give five kits—a donated value of $1,350—to support young people moving toward independent living. The Missions & Justice Ministries Team extends a joyous THANK YOU!

A mysterious and hilarious ā€œABBAā€ singer and dancer—dressed in disco outfits and blonde wigs—came on stage to perform ā€œBishop Queen,ā€ (a Prairie-style Dancing Queen tribute to our Bishop). Can you guess who they were? Hint: one wore a stole earlier in the service and the other is a ā€œStrongā€ singer!

Our Sunday School children offered Bishop Stoneking flowers and handmade self-portraits of themselves with her—a heartfelt gift.

A joyful thank you to Jamille Rogers for creating the beautiful photo booth and taking photos of our Prairie people with Bishop Stoneking!

Thank you all for an amazing celebration!
