On August 28–29, Prairie’s staff and Board gathered at Cathedral Ridge for our first-ever retreat together for a time of connection, and learning. We kicked things off with some lively community building: Twister, speed “relating,” chocolate tasting, cup stacking, and lots of laughter.

Prairie Gummy Bears Softball Season is a Wrap!

Thank you to all our players who came out for an awesome season! “The Bears” had fun together, while also playing some great softball for their fans—who showed up rain or shine. The Bears took the field even when the weather didn’t cooperate and the fans huddled under shelter and kept cheering! A huge thank you to Coach Stuart Strong for creating a community where players could laugh, grow their skills, build friendships, and support one another. We can’t wait for next year!

Thanks to all who Served at Feed My Starving Children. We had a great crew of Prairie volunteers at the August Feed My Starving Children Mobile Pack at Bethel Lutheran Church. We joined hundreds of volunteers from all over CoSprings to create around 100,000 meals for starving children around the world.

Prairie is sponsoring a table at Inside Out’s Ally Up! Breakfast on Thur, Sept 24, from 7–8:30 a.m. at the Antlers Hotel. We have 10 seats available. Inside Out has served LGBTQIA2+ young people in the Pikes Peak region for more than 35 years. Working with persons ages 13–24, they provide a safe and affirming community along with support groups, mentoring, educational programs, leadership opportunities, advocacy, and social activities.

Some of us from Prairie had the opportunity last year to tour Inside Out and spend time with Executive Director Angie Reader, and we came away incredibly impressed by the organization. Check-in begins at 7 am, with breakfast at 7:30 am. During the event, guests will be invited to make a donation to support Inside Out. Sign up at the Connect Table or email [email protected].

Throughout August, Prairie’s Allies for Racial Equity Team has invited us to learn more about immigration through two screenings of Jesus Was a Migrant, a documentary featuring historian and New York Times bestselling author Dr. Jemar Tisby. More than 20 people attended between the two showings. Thank you to the Hockmans and the Meeks for hosting.

There is one more opportunity to learn: A Faithful Response to ICE, Sat, Aug 22 | 10 am–12 pm at Peoples UMC, 5110 Tamlin Rd. This training will be an opportunity to learn more about immigration enforcement and explore faithful ways we can respond, support our immigrant neighbors, and put our values into action. Welcome Howard! Howard grew up in many different places and even overseas until his family finally settled in Colorado Springs in 1996. Inspired by the paintings of his grandmother in his youth he pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Communications. For the last 16 years he’s been active as a graphic designer and illustrator, focusing on editorial layouts and branding for clients. He spends his free time on his passions: art, video games, anime and a whole lot of cooking!
