Let us pray for our neighbors, coworkers, and all who labor each day, asking God to draw them closer to Himself through the witness of faithful friends and spiritual companions.

What if the people God intends to use for the renewal of your parish are already there?

Through the Generation of Saints Initiative, parish teams consisting of clergy, staff and parishioners spend two years growing in discipleship, discerning their spiritual gifts, and learning how to accompany others in faith. As team members grow in following Jesus and helping others do the same, they learn to recognize where God is already at work in their parish and community.

What comes to mind when you hear the word apostle?

Today we remember St. Maximilian Kolbe, a model for those discerning and exercising the 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 that 𝑒𝑛𝑎𝑏𝑙𝑒𝑠 𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝑡𝑜 𝑠ℎ𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑎 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑝𝑒𝑙𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑣𝑖𝑠𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑜𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑑𝑟𝑎𝑤𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑚 𝑡𝑜 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑘 𝑡𝑜𝑔𝑒𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑡𝑜 𝑚𝑎𝑘𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑣𝑖𝑠𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑎 𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑦.

Centered on devotion to Jesus through Mary, St. Maximilian inspired others to join him in a mission that grew far beyond anything he could have accomplished alone. He founded publications, established communities, and mobilized people and resources in service of evangelization.

His continual yes to God's call bore great fruit as he combined deep spiritual devotion with practical management to mobilize others for a higher purpose.

Yet many remember him most for a different yes to God's call. When a fellow prisoner was selected to die in Auschwitz, Fr. Maximilian stepped forward and volunteered to take his place, knowing the man had a wife and children. His life reminds us that evangelization is ultimately expressed through self-giving love.

As Sherry Weddell writes, "𝐺𝑜𝑑 𝑔𝑖𝑣𝑒𝑠 𝑒𝑎𝑐ℎ 𝑜𝑓 𝑢𝑠 𝑝𝑎𝑟𝑡𝑖𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑎𝑟 𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑟𝑖𝑠𝑚𝑠, 𝑠𝑜 𝑖𝑡 𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦 𝑑𝑜𝑒𝑠 𝑚𝑎𝑡𝑡𝑒𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑖𝑡 𝑖𝑠 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑠𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝑒𝑙𝑠𝑒 𝑤ℎ𝑜𝑚 𝐺𝑜𝑑 ℎ𝑎𝑠 𝑝𝑙𝑎𝑐𝑒𝑑 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑠𝑜𝑛."

Your charisms are channels through which God's love can effectively reach others. Leadership was one of the charisms God entrusted to St. Maximilian, enabling him to inspire others to join in God's work. Through Baptism, each of us is entrusted with varied charisms meant to build up the Body of Christ and advance the Church's mission.

St. Maximilian Kolbe, pray for us, that we may discover our charisms and use them generously for the Gospel. 🙏
