The Missions and Justice Council has opportunities for you to serve joyfully in the missions of the church. These opportunities will enable you to be part of a team that will creatively work together at the convenience of the group and/or individuals. We are currently building teams to make breakfast burritos, organize our food and clothing donations, and prepare for our annual Christmas in the Parking Lot. Join us October 2nd-4th for a weekend of man stuff; grilled and smoked meats, hikes, campfires, and conversations that actually matter. We joke about the man stuff, but toxic masculinity is a real issue in our culture. So, seriously, come unplug, eat well, and gather with other guys who strive to be courageous and kind in a challenging social time.

Cost: $80 for furnishing, fire, and food! We never want price to prevent participation. Partial or full scholarships available.

If you've noticed new faces in the building lately, or wondered what's happening on the second floor, let us introduce you to Welcome COS. We're a local nonprofit walking alongside refugees and immigrants as they build new lives here, offering English classes, one-on-one volunteers, entrepreneurship opportunities through cooking and cottage industry events, and friendship across cultures. Since April 2025, much of that work has happened right here at FUMC — from hosting our Culinary Connections program, to providing classroom space that helped us launch Welcome English, to giving our team office space on the second floor. Your generosity has literally given Welcome COS a home.

Welcome English is our classroom ESL program. Hosted on the 2nd floor of FUMC, we continue to grow with up to 50 students, plus 15 to 20 children. We gather each week to build language skills and community with one another. When students celebrated completing their first semester, FUMC's children's ministry put together food bags with gift cards for them — we might have even had some ladies dancing up to receive their ESL certificates and gift bags!

This summer, we also hosted our first-ever Welcome English Bazaar right here at FUMC. More than 125 people came out to shop, and 18 students sold food and handmade crafts from their home countries. One student, unable to sell food due to certification requirements, picked up a borrowed sewing machine for the first time on a Friday. By Tuesday, she arrived with 15 sets of coasters and seven table runners, all sold out within two hours. She beamed, holding up her very first check.

Thank you, FUMC, for being such a vital part of this story. We're grateful to call your church home, and hope you'll enjoy getting to know your new neighbors as much as we have. Please stop by our office on the 2nd floor anytime!

Rehearsals for our annual Lessons & Carols concerts kick off with our first Christmas retreat on Saturday, September 26. If you match pitch and would like to be a part of the choir for this special event, there is a place for you! After the retreat, it is a one hour commitment each Thursday from (7pm-8pm). By the time Lessons & Carols rolls around you will have volunteered about 19 hours of your time to be a blessing to our church and community.

THANK YOU FOR A SUCCESSFUL MOBILE PACK!!!

Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) is a Christian non-profit organization with the sole mission of Feeding God’s starving children hungry in body and spirit. The process is simple: Donations given by people like you fund the meal ingredients. Volunteers hand-pack the meals. Meals are donated to FMSC food partners around the world, where kids are fed and lives are saved!

THANK YOU to everyone who donated, volunteered, and prayed! With our partner churches Bethel Lutheran, Monument Presbyterian, Prairie United Methodist, and Faith Lutheran, we accomplished the following:

Funds Raised = $35,000+
Volunteers = 500+
Completed Boxes = 540
Meals = 116,640
Kids Fed for a Year = 319!

FUMC's 155th anniversary is coming up quick! In celebration, we've asked some of our congregants to share a story about what FUMC has meant to them, and what they are looking forward to in our future. Here's one from LeeAnn Kidd:

"I came to Colorado Springs in February 1988 after college. I lived with my parents and found a job but I really didn’t know anyone outside of work. First Company was doing a production of Brigadoon in October 1988 and that sounded fun, so my parents and I joined the chorus. That’s where I met Ron – he was the Bad Guy! We went all through rehearsals and didn’t really notice each other until almost the end of the show, but I think we would
have found each other anyway because our mothers sat next to each other in Chancel Choir! It was fate! We were married here by Dr Darrell Mount in 1990 and just celebrated our 36th wedding anniversary.

That’s how long we’ve been in Chancel Choir along with my parents and Ron’s mom Harriet until she passed. First Company was a great way to meet new people and have fun doing it! And Chancel Choir is one big family with plenty of room for someone new! We celebrate together when things are going right but we also help and lift each other up when they aren’t.

If anyone wants to have fun and meet new people, Music & Arts is the place to be. You just never know what will happen!!!"
