Blessed Memorial of St. Zita!

St. Zita was born in Tuscany, 1212, and became a servant to a wealthy family at the age of 12. She was overworked and abused by her employers and by fellow servants. Despite her mistreatment, Zita maintained her inner peace and her good example led to the conversion of those who abused her. She spent her scarce leisure time in prayer, heard Mass daily, and gave her food to the poor. St. Zita died peacefully at home on April 27, 1272. Legend tells that a star appeared above her bed at the moment of her death. St. Zita's body was exhumed in 1580, more than 300 years after her death, and discovered to be incorrupt. However, her body was since mummified and is currently on display for public veneration in the Basilica di San Frediano in Lucca, Italy. St. Zita is the patroness of maids, domestic servants, and is frequently called upon to help find lost keys. (Source: The Oxford Dictionary of Saints)
