Colorado Springs Christian Church Jesus First! Crucified In Love, Raised In Power, Reigning As King.

Charles Spurgeon recounted a powerful, sobering prayer his mother, Eliza, prayed over him, stating:

“And if he dies without Christ, let my soul stand as a witness against him on the day of judgment.”

A mothers love, bold and full of grace and truth.

Jesus First — Crucified In Love, Raised In Power, Reigns As King.

How does this move us?

Crucified In Love — Galatians 2:20
Jesus gave Himself for us in love. We are no longer driven by guilt, fear, or self-centered living, but by faith in the Son of God who loved us and gave Himself for us. His cross compels surrender, devotion, and transformation.

Raised In Power — Romans 1:16
The Gospel is the power of God for salvation to all who believe. Through faith and the Holy Spirit, Jesus not only forgives us in justification but also continually transforms us in sanctification. The resurrection power of Christ is still active in His people today.

Reigns As King — Revelation 1, 2-3, 5, 12, 19
Jesus is not merely Savior—He is King. His reign calls for obedience, reverence, awe, and faithful allegiance. When Christ is truly King in our lives, His mission becomes our mission, His voice becomes our authority, and His kingdom becomes our pursuit.

If we truly believe that Jesus was crucified in love, raised in power, and reigns as King, then we cannot remain unchanged. Faith and the Holy Spirit move us to live boldly, walk faithfully, proclaim the Gospel courageously, and bear much fruit for the glory of God.

Sleepy Head

One of the strongest signs in Scripture of the return of Christ is the spiritually sleeping church:

In Matthew 25, all ten virgins became drowsy while waiting for the bridegroom.

Warning signs of spiritual sleep:
- Prayerlessness
- Loss of urgency
- Entertainment replacing worship
- Little hunger for Scripture
- Comfort becoming more important than holiness
- Knowing about Jesus without intimacy with Him

The danger is not open rebellion alone—it is being unprepared while thinking you are fine.

The Greatest Sign Is Not Around You—It Is Within You

The real question is not: “Can you identify signs?”

The real question is: “Are you ready to meet the King?”

Jesus repeatedly said:
- Stay awake
- Be faithful
- Keep oil in your lamp - walk in the Spirit
- Endure to the end
- Watch and pray

How Should We Respond?
1. Live Awake
Do not drift spiritually.

2. Return to Holiness
Compromise dulls spiritual discernment.

3. Know Scripture
Truth protects against deception.

4. Live by the Holy Spirit
The Spirit keeps believers alert and fruitful.

5. Proclaim the Gospel of the Kingdom
The church is not called to hide in fear, but to declare His Gospel!

6. Fix Your Eyes on Christ the King
The return of Jesus is not merely about judgment—it is about the appearing of the victorious King.

Jesus First

Crucified In Love
Because He loved us first, we hear His voice, declare His Gospel, and move the future.

Raised In Power
Because He conquered death in power, we hear His voice, declare His Gospel, and move the future.

Reigning As King
Because He reigns as King above all, we hear His voice, declare His Gospel, and move the future.

Family, Friendships, and Faith . . . ALL three are what we need to be more than a Sunday meeting.

Family Group Leaders: Clarity and Covenant
Note: This is a work in progress

_________________________________________________________

Clarity, Not Control That Leads to a Choice:

Family Group Leaders are first and foremost disciples of Jesus Christ. They lead and serve because Jesus Christ was crucified in love for us, raised in power over sin and death, and now reigns as King. We choose to obey Him fully—listening to His Word, surrendering our will, and following Him with reverence, faith, and unwavering devotion all the days of our lives. No one can make us live a Jesus First life. Only the reverence and awe of Jesus Christ, our King, can do that.

_________________________________________________________

Providing Clarity of My Commitment and Covenant as a Family Group Leader:

By God’s grace and truth, and compelled by Christ’s love and glory through the power of the Holy Spirit, I covenant to:

I will live a Jesus-First Life through servitude and leadership for Christ, my King alone:

Because Jesus was crucified in love for me, raised in power over sin and death, and now reigns as King, I choose to live a Jesus-First life, obeying Him in all things—not merely by outward effort, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. Whatever I do, I will work at it with all my heart, as if working for the Lord rather than for men, knowing I will receive my inheritance from Him. It is Christ alone I serve, and I will walk in faithful obedience, knowing He was crucified in love, raised in power, and now reigns as King!

Reinforce the Why of a Jesus-First Life:
Jesus Christ - Crucified in love, raised in power, reigning as King.

Reinforce the How of a Jesus-First Life:
Therefore, with reverence and awe, we declare that all obedience to Jesus Christ and His commands comes from the Holy Spirit’s declaration of truth that Jesus Christ was crucified in love, raised in power, and now reigns in perfect righteousness as our King!

Reinforce the What of a Jesus-First Life:
We live a Jesus-First life of worship, reverence, and awe-inspired obedience because of Who Jesus Christ is and the reality that He loved us first. Therefore, in light of His glory, power, and authority, we freely and joyfully give our lives to Him because we love Him first!

Why must we focus on Jesus First:
Crucified in Love, Raised in Power, Reigning as King?

Because this reality keeps the church from drifting into half-gospels. It calls us to the real Jesus, who doesn’t just improve lives, but transforms and rules them.

Why it matters for your church and preaching . . . This statement keeps our message centered and balanced:
- It fuels worship (a King worth reverence)
- It drives discipleship (a Lord worth obeying)
- It anchors identity (a Savior who defines you)
- It ignites a mission (a kingdom worth advancing)
- Read Luke 14:25-26; Revelation 2:1-7

Sacred Assembly

A.W. Tozer famously outlined three distinct marks of a person who is crucified with Christ, emphasizing absolute surrender and a new direction in life.

These three marks are:

1. A crucified man is facing only one direction: He has set his face toward God and his purpose is singular, no longer looking back at the world.

2. A crucified man is not going back: He has said his final goodbye to his old life, his past, and his own ambitions.

3. A crucified man has no further plans of his own: His will is entirely surrendered, and he has yielded his future to the will of God.

20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Paul understood.

Reverence does not begin with our feelings; it begins with Christ’s identity. In the New Testament, the Greek word often associated with reverence is eulabeia, implying a "pious fear" or "taking hold of well." We take hold of Christ with trembling joy because of who He is.

Revelation 2-3 . . .

To the Church In Ephesus: These are the words of Him Who holds the seven stars in His right hand and walks among the seven golden lampstands.

To the Church In Smyrna: These are the words of Him Who is the First and the Last, who died and came to life again.

To the Church In Pergamum: These are the words of Him who has the sharp, double-edged sword.

To the Church In Thyatira: These are the words of the Son of God, whose eyes are like blazing fire and Whose feet are like burnished bronze.

To the Church In Sardis: These are the words of Him Who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars.

To the Church In Philadelphia: These are the words of Him Who is holy and true, Who holds the key of David. What He opens no one can shut, and what He shuts no one can open.

To the Church In Laodicea: These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation.

The Eternal Word: He is the one through whom all things were made (Colossians 1:16). Our reverence is rooted in His role as the Architect of existence.

The Risen Lord: His victory over death establishes His throne. He is not a distant historical figure but a living Monarch who holds the keys to death and Hades (Revelation 1:18).

The Just Judge: Reverence acknowledges our accountability to Him. He is the King who returns to set all things right.

The Author and Perfector of Our Faith: Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith.

The Glorified Son of Man (Chapter 1): John sees Jesus with hair white as wool, eyes like flames of fire, feet of burnished bronze, and a voice like thunderous ocean waves. He is walking among seven lampstands, representing his intimate care for His churches.

The King of Kings (Chapter 19): Returning on a white horse, Jesus is described as "Faithful and True," leading the armies of heaven for battle and judgment, wearing a robe dipped in blood.

The Sharp, Double-Edged Sword (1:16, 19:15): This represents the powerful, effective word of God and Christ's authority to judge, bringing swift judgment against sin and injustice.

The Morning Star (22:16): Jesus identifies Himself as the "bright morning star," signifying He is the dawn of a new day, the promise of hope, and the fulfillment of prophecy.

The Alpha and Omega (1:8, 22:13): This title affirms His divine nature, indicating He is the beginning and the end, eternal and all-powerful.
