What if the greatest obstacle to knowing God... is thinking we've already figured God out?

Nicodemus came to Jesus with a lifetime of knowledge. He knew the Scriptures. He knew the traditions. He knew all the right answers.

But Jesus offered him something more.

"Nicodemus, you already have gallons of answers. What you need is one drop of experience—one moment of new birth."

Sometimes our faith can become a collection of facts instead of a living relationship.

We can know about God...
without truly knowing God.

Jesus invites us beyond information and into transformation.

Beyond certainty and into trust.

Beyond simply believing that God exists, to believing in the One who loves us.

Maybe today isn't about finding another answer.

Maybe it's about opening your hands, emptying your cup, and allowing God to make all things new.

What if faith isn't about having all the answers?

What if it's about staying in the conversation?

Pastor Dan points out that the Gospel of John doesn't fit neatly alongside the other Gospels. It's different. Unexpected. Sometimes mysterious.

And maybe that's part of the invitation.

To keep asking.
To keep seeking.
To keep discovering.

Because faith isn't a destination we arrive at once and for all.

It's a lifelong conversation with God.

And there's always more to learn.

What if the most important part of church isn't the building?

It's easy to admire beautiful sanctuaries, stained glass windows, and towering bell towers. They're gifts that tell the story of generations who came before us.

But when Jesus was asked to prove His authority, He pointed beyond the building.

"Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it again."

The people thought He was talking about bricks and mortar.

He was talking about Himself.

Jesus became the place where heaven and earth meet.

The place where people encounter God.

That means church has never been about preserving a building for its own sake.

It's about creating space where people can experience the living presence of Christ.

Buildings matter because ministry happens inside them.

Traditions matter because they can point us toward Jesus.

But Jesus is always greater than the place where we worship.

May we never confuse the building with the One who meets us there.

Wherever Jesus is welcomed, people meet with God.

You matter here. 💛

FBC-CS Worship: June 21st, 2026

Barbara Brown Taylor once observed that “new life starts in the dark. Whether it is a seed in the ground, a baby in the womb, or Jesus in the tomb, it starts in the dark.” It’s no coincidence that Nicodemus came to Jesus in the dark — both figuratively and metaphorically. But can he (and can we) let ourselves be born anew? Rev. Dan Schumacher preaches on John 3:1-17 as we continue our Summer Sermon Series, That You May Believe: The Gospel According to John. Plus we lift up and celebrate our fathers and father-figures!

What if church isn't here to protect your preferences?

What if it's here to help people meet God?

In this week's message, Pastor Dan reminds us that sometimes we become so comfortable with the way things are that we forget what they're for.

"Sometimes, we get so used to feeling sick that we forget what it feels like to feel whole and restored and healthy."

Jesus didn't cleanse the temple because he wanted to destroy it.

He cleansed it because he loved it.

He removed the barriers that kept people from encountering God.

The same question echoes for us today:

What have we made sacred that was never meant to be?

Our preferences?
Our traditions?
Our comfort?
Our certainty?

The church exists for something far greater.

To be a place where all people are welcome to meet with God.

May we always be willing to let Jesus clear away whatever stands in the way of that mission.

Sometimes ministry looks like a handwritten card. 💌

Sometimes it looks like coffee shared across a table. ☕

Sometimes it’s laughter, conversation, prayer, or simply reminding someone they’re not alone.

That’s the heart behind Latte & Love — a relaxed gathering for women to connect, encourage one another, and care for people in our community through simple acts of kindness.

📅 June 25
⏰ 10:00 AM – Noon

Come enjoy coffee and refreshments, make new friends, write cards to those on your heart, and take a breath in the middle of a busy season.

Children are welcome, with an activity table available as well.

At FBC, we believe small moments of connection can become sacred spaces of grace. 💛
