Hello FBF

I have arrived safely, back in the Springs!

Prayer request / update:

My mom is out of the hospital after a very long and rough recovery. She was released yesterday and will be staying with my sister for the next few weeks.
This woman has been through much- please be lifting her up in prayer.

I need prayers and Gods provision for the right job, right apartment, and please keep your eyes open for a small be**er truck!

YEAH GOD!

The Body of Christ has provided a short term car for my transport. I have my bike but it does rain too.
I am staying with Candice also short term because she has many visitors coming in and no extra rooms. What a great kid I have.

Thanks again for you friendship, prayers and support!
Thank you Father God for your love, grace and mercy!

For all those who have followed my adventures with God here in Gulu, Uganda and South Sudan. I have an announcement that may surprise to you. This is a bitter sweet moment for me- a turning point in my life.
I have never needed to consider what to do with my life. God has blessed me with an amazing career and skills. Then one day- three years ago- he turned the page in my life and then I was a missionary. So rewarding! God has been so good to me!
It has been an amazing experience serving here and I deeply appreciate your support! Through you- God has provided for my needs. However, for months now my heart has been turning toward home and I believe that God has been preparing me to do just that. Knowing that this is the new direction for my life I have purchased a ticket and will be home by May 25th.
As I return from the mission field I invite anyone who feels lead, to assist me in getting back on my feet. I will be checking the available construction management jobs, a place to live, car and
all the other stuff for life too.
Again, it has been a pleasure serving with the team in Gulu and I know God is going to bless the work! I am most grateful that God held all things together so that I might one day hear him say well done. No words can express the depth of love that God has shown me. His glory fills the earth that he created- with us in mind! Eph. 1:4
Blessings!
Until he returns!

The RMC team is now leaving Kampala headed for Gulu. The driving directions say it is a four-and-a-half-hour trip but I'd be surprised.

Praying for soft hearts to receive the message that God loves them, has a plan for their life through a relationship with Jesus Christ. Salvation in him- eternity with him!

Pastor Kent Nolley Joshua his son and I arrived in Kampala yesterday to purchase some of the things needed for daily living that you can't buy in Gulu. We spent the night at the fairway hotel and will be picking up the Rocky Mountain Calvary Chapel short-term mission team in just 3 hours. It has been an usually long trip for them please keep them in your prayers. And please consider them over the next week as a minister to the people of northern Uganda

Gulu, Uganda
Missions Update
February 2016

Got to be honest here, February was one tough month! The heat, dust and smoke in the dry season has so many people suffering. This is no surprise to me and yes I came prepared this time. It’s just that you can only do so much and life plays out as God allows. Right about now I start getting really excited because the rains are just a few weeks away and Gulu turns so green it looks like a totally different place.

Despite having pneumonia I am still teaching (missed two opportunities) and have even added a bible study at a juvenile center. We are making preparations for the team from Rocky Mountain Calvary coming in April and Pastor Kent and family has made it to Uganda. Really looking forward to Pastor Steve and Gail’s arrival too.

The leaders that have committed to the discipleship classes that Pastor Kent will be teaching are primed and ready! Several have attended English classes and they are pretty excited about that too. Matthew 28:19 says go and make disciples of all nations and that is just what we are doing!

It is amazing being a part of what God is doing here. Many of you have said that I am storing up treasures in heaven. The truth is my service is the only right response to Gods love, grace and mercy in our lives. Some send, others are sent, the fact is- for those of you that have given time and treasure through prayer and donations. You too share equally is the crowns we will one day lay at the feet of our King! Wow- I just got a little emotional at that thought- come soon Lord!

Please keep us in prayer, the next two months will be extremely busy. We will need God to go before us- preparing the hearts of those who serve and those who will be served. I have postponed my trips up North to serve the people Sudan. We have recently purchased land for the new home of Calvary Chapel Gulu and there is much to do- too much to do, lol…

As always- thank you, thank you, thank you! Your prayers, encouragement and donations make all this possible. It’s not that I ever question my calling here because I don’t. However, when certain unexpressed prayers are answered through you- I see the hand of God and I am encouraged! So thankful for your friendship and love!
Your brother in Christ.

Prayer requests:
The new bible study at the Remand center
Trying to start a bible study at the police station again- maybe this time
Pastor Steve and Kent’s efforts to get settled in here in Gulu
The team coming in April and all the preparations
My health- feeling much better now- it was pure hell for a while there lol

Believe it or not the government of Uganda shut down FB and other media for the past week during the elections. Thank you for your prayers- there were many arrests but I think there was only one death related to protests. Please keep the prayers coming!

Gulu, Uganda
Missions Update
January 2016

A very special thank you to all those who have spent time on their knees and / or spent their hard earned cash to ensure that the work here in North Uganda continues. Uganda is just one of many places that God has chosen to draw a people group to salvation in masses. Because of your support, well over 2,000 people have heard the gospel from my lips. May times I have had the chance to teach to groups of hundreds of students. That’s something we could never do back in the US.

Over the past month that I have been back in Gulu we have managed to put my room back in order, more or less. Get my motorcycle running, more or less. We have had a 5-day evangelistic outreach. We have visited several church members in the hospital, providing them with encouraging words, food, blankets and a reed mat to sleep on. Unfortunately, my little friend Emmanuel didn’t make it out of the hospital and I had to preside over his funeral but even then the gospel was preached. There has been a Calvary Chapel Pastor that got married, we have taught in no fewer than 6- churches, 5- community events 4- homes, 1 prison and even in a pear tree. Lol..

We have attended the three day Calvary Chapel Jinga men’s’ conference with 18 leaders from our 12 Calvary Chapels here in the North. While we were there Pastor Fred took me to see the spot where the Nile River begins. Then we jumped the border to see how God has blessed 4- drunkards with a full time business that is so blessed that even the chicken p**p makes them a living. We visited Pastor Edwin that has returned home to Kenya after serving as a missionary to Adak, Uganda for 9 years. He is looking to start a church there and I believe God is behind that desire. Kenya is as hungry for the word of God as Uganda is!

After being gone for a week, we are back in Gulu and there is so much to do! I am still waiting on funding for the trip up north to encourage the 3- refugee camps from Sudan’s civil and border wars. Nevertheless, I will be teaching the South Sudanese troops in Nimule again at the Far Reaching Ministries compound for one month in June. I believe this is so important- because if you have ungodly soldiers than you will have an ungodly army! Remember, that “evil prevails when good men do nothing” to stop it! I actually though I made that up but I guess some guy named Edmin Burk said it first- lol.

Prayer requests:
• Health
• Support
• Finding time to do stuff like this- lol
• My studies
• Please pray for Rose- she was helping to raise Emmanuel and now she is without him
• That God would use me to reach the lost

One good thing about jet lag is that you have plenty of time to pray, read and reflect. Thank you Lord for your love, grace, mercy and peace in my life! Thanks to everyone that has been lifting me up in prayer, those who provided support and encouragement. May God bless you richly as you seek after him! Matthew 6:33- look it up :)

This Calvary Chapel missionary (Michael Rooks) could use your help! I am scheduled to return to full time missions in Gulu, Uganda (East Africa) in just 9 days and my budget is falling short by half. Although I attend a large church in Colorado- I am just 1 of 40 missionaries and one of the newest to be sent so raising adequate funds has been difficult. The ticket has been purchased and most of what I need is still in place and waiting for my return. Please pray that Gods people will come alone side me so that I can stay in the mission field. Please pray for my spiritual growth, health and safety. Please pray for the work to be effective and that God would go before us! Please prayerfully consider a one time or monthly tax deductable donation. 100% of donations goes to support me and the work God has for me. If you are interested, a little about the ministry and me and instructions on how to give are below.

Since 2010 I have faithfully been perusing Gods calling as a missionary. He has laid it on my heart to be an ever-increasing circle of Godly influence and that is what drives me. Through scripture, God told me to get out of debt, shortly before the 2008 economic crash. Because of my obedience, I lost nothing and live debt free. I have sold my home, two Harleys, two boats, a truck and nearly everything else to finance missions and eliminate the need to put them in storage. Every time I have come back on furlough, God has provided a place to live, a job and transportation. God is faithful…

My commitment to missions in East Africa: In 2010 God opened the door and provided the funds for me to serve Far Reaching Ministries (FRM) in Nimule South Sudan. FRM takes up to 60 troops from the South Sudanese Army’s Chaplaincy Corps and spends one year teaching them Word of God- verse by verse. Since then I have been back several times and for the past two years have lived in Gulu Uganda as a full time missionary.

Having gone full time, I rely on donations and have spent close to 10,000 dollars of my savings to supplement the donations and those funds are now depleted. I live as close to a native life as I can to keep down the costs. Several times, I have been told, “they have never seen a missionary who lives and serves as I have”. Each time that I came home on furlough, I immediately went back to work to build back up my bank account and returned as soon as I possibly could! Why? I FEEL HONORED TO SERVE GOD- ANYWHERE- DOING ANYTHING! I AM AMAZED THAT HE LETS ME SERVE HIM AT ALL!

In the year to come, I will continue to teach at homes, schools, churches, prisons and street evangelism too. Interview and disperse funds for RMC’s- children’s school fees sponsorship program. Help random people that we have identified with repair and building homes for the poor. Preparing for and leading projects associated with the annual March mission team from Rocky Mountain Calvary. As well as flow-up inspections of the building projects to ensure all work has been completed to satisfactory standards. Teaching the South Sudanese Army the Word of God, verse-by-verse for at lease one month in June. Visiting the South Sudanese IDP refugee camps to encourage the hurting and share the Gospel with the lost. In addition to all of this- I plan to increase my efforts to reach out to and encourage the body of Christ by visiting established Calvary Chapels and other Bible believing ministries wherever there is an open door. 2016 will be a busy year!!
