Last week I preached a sermon on suffering, and concluded with a Christian testimony to accompany the Jewish one from the book of Job. This week I've decided to offer a "part two," elaborating on how Christians in particular can embrace suffering with hope.

Hope to see you Sunday.

Bad things happen to good people (maybe you've read that book). They happen to bad people also. Bad things just happen. But when God is involved, bad things don't necessarily end up all bad. The character Job is one of the most authentic people in the Bible and one of the most misunderstood. This Sunday we'll listen more closely than usual to this man of extraordinary suffering for what he has to teach us about the bad things that happen in life. He invites us to a much bigger view, one that has been around us our whole lives long, but one that we easily ignore. No easy answers here, but through a glimpse of truth, we may find some comfort. Invite someone you know who might benefit from looking at life from a different perspective.

Easter was long enough ago that by now many of our lives may have returned to normal--busy, tired, drab. If this describes you at the beginning of the summer, come to worship and discover the Resurrected Christ again. He shows up in the most ordinary places now.

We hope you join us for worship this Sunday.

This week’s sermon will provide “A Glimpse of Heaven,” the hoped for eternal home of Christians. A recent Gallup survey showed that 70% of Americans believe in Heaven although the exact definition of Heaven can vary greatly. Even many lifelong Christians do not know much about the everlasting life to come except that Christ will be the center and that it will be a wonderful time of great joy and fellowship with God. But little else is known and myths and misconceptions abound including that Heaven will be an unending church service. Join us on Sunday to address these misconceptions and using scripture, describe what Heaven will really be like.

Jesus described a final judgment scene that included all the nations of the world. In the process, he also depicted what the Kingdom of Heaven looks like. In Christ’s absence and with the gift of God’s Spirit, the church is responsible for demonstrating God’s Kingdom in the world. Come this Sunday to learn how the church is similar to other organizations, and how it is very, very different.

We hope to see you Sunday at 10:30.

The first words about Jesus are actually refrains from the songs of Judaism. Drawing heavily from the prophets, Mary’s song about bearing and giving birth to the Messiah offers a testimony of faith in God’s justice. All that is wrong in the society of humanity begins to be made right when God enters society through Jesus. This Sunday we will consider what it means to be faithful to this Messiah.
Please join us in worship at 10:30. All are welcome.
