FAMILY, FOOD, FOOTBALL, AND FAITH
Thanksgiving has always been a treasured holiday for me, filled with special family gatherings. I recall sitting around a pool table converted into a dining table at the Jewell’s, enjoying the feast my mom and Aunt Doris prepared. My grown brothers would join us, and we'd savor traditional dishes, though cranberry sauce was never my favorite. Watching the Lions play, often lose, was part of our Michigan tradition, but the day remained special regardless of the game's outcome.
We always took time to share our blessings with each other and with God, cherishing our human and spiritual families. The world hasn't quite figured out how to spoil this holiday, and it remains a wonderful time for us. I hope you have similar memories and make new ones this weekend. Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday for creating lifelong family memories.

We celebrate and give God praise for another Baptism. We baptize not to be saved but to be obedient and identify with Jesus Christ.

Joy vs. Happiness

Jesus desires His disciples to radiate His joy to the world. However, joy and happiness are distinct.

While happiness hinges on circumstances—when things go our way, our team wins, our check arrives, or our car runs well—joy transcends such fleeting moments.

Joy is anchored in our relationship with Christ. Even when our team loses, our standing with Christ brings joy.

Financial tightness doesn’t extinguish this joy. When our connection with the living God remains strong despite life’s challenges, that’s His true joy.

Jesus doesn’t seek mere happiness for Himself or His disciples. Our role isn’t to ensure everyone around us is happy.

Instead, we’re conduits for the joy of the Lord to flow outward. Jesus says, “I want My joy to permeate their lives.”

Through the Son, we know the living God. We can talk to Him, read His Word, and gain understanding through the Holy Spirit.

We do not know earthly authorities, but we have a talking, breathing, living relationship with the Creator of the universe, and you do, too, if you know Christ.

That’s where the joy comes from. We can have joy because we have truth.

So Jesus prayed for protection against discouragement, desiring His disciples to dwell in the abundant joy of the Lord.
