Scriptural Focus- 1 Corinthians 15:55-58

“O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord”

Sitting between Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday, is what some reference as Silent Saturday. For many of people who witnessed the crucifixion, I am sure they believed that the ministry and power of Jesus was dead and gone. The followers of Jesus, along with His family, I’m sure felt great sadness and great uncertainty during this brief period where all they really knew was that Jesus was in the grave. We too can have similar thoughts and feelings during times where we are tempted to believe all is lost. However, we must take courage and remember we are not just spinning our wheels. Paul reminds the church in Corinth that no matter what may be going on around them or in their own lives that the path of trusting in God is not full of meaninglessness but instead gives the opportunity to exercise the great victory we all share in because of the death and resurrection of Christ. As such, as believers we must put aside the deception of the enemy that points to defeat and instead take hold of the hope that we have.

Prayer Focus- Give God praise for His plan of redemption. Thank God for the shed blood and empty tomb. Pray that in times of difficulty that we remember and claim our victory in Jesus.

It’s Good Friday…but why do we call it “good?” After all, it was a dark day filled with the suffering of our Savior.

It wouldn’t have been good without the resurrection on Sunday. Today, that’s what I want you to ponder. To fully celebrate the good news of Easter, we must fully appreciate the alternative. Let’s consider these “what ifs.”

What if it wasn’t true? What if the stone never rolled away from the tomb?

What would your life be like if Jesus didn’t defeat death and come back from the grave?

In 1 Corinthians 15, Paul describes what would be true if Christ had not been raised.

Good Friday can only be called “good” because of the hope and redemption that came through Christ’s resurrection on Easter Sunday.

Aren’t you glad to know the resurrection is true? It happened! Jesus triumphed over death, paid the penalty for your sins and mine…and offers freedom and forgiveness for all your days.

The darkness of the cross did give way to the brilliance of the empty tomb.

Praise the Lord!

You don’t have to live without hope. You have been given His promises of peace and purpose! In Christ, there is no circumstance that can defeat you…not even death.

Scriptural Focus- Colossians 3:2

"Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth"

The world is full of many pleasurable things, and I am a firm believer that God wants us to enjoy them. However, we can become so caught up in the temporary that we forget about the eternal. Even the most innocent of activities can be a danger if we come to love them more than God and they begin to interfere with our devotion to Him. We have to make heaven our home. As such, we must find a balance in our life which places all that we do in proper perspective. God wants us to enjoy life, but we cannot ever forget that He is the giver of life, and all that we have is His. Let's put our minds on heavenly things today.

Prayer Focus- Ask God to help us focus all that we are- heart, mind, and soul on making heaven our home.

Scriptural Focus- “And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.” 1 Kings 18:21

In this verse, we find the prophet of God, Elijah, confronting the people over their worship of the false god, Baal. The question he presented to them came as the wicked King Ahab and Jezebel continued their pursuit of oppression against the him. The people didn’t give a verbal reply, but the answer was quite clear by their actions that they did not find it necessary to put away the worship of Baal that they had fallen into o er the course of time. This reluctance did not stop Elijah from moving forward with what we find later in 1 King 18 as a clear victory for the God as the Man of God confronted the prophets of Baal. However, it should be noted in verse 31 that Elijah first rebuilt the altar of worship that had been neglected as the people turned from God. Today, we must ask ourselves where we are at in our walk with God. How would you answer Elijah’s question- are you between the things of the world or the things of God? Is your altar of worship in disrepair ? Have you been neglecting your altar ? So many times, we want to find strength in the old moves of God, but we can’t do that because we live in today while we wait on eternity. We must not be of two minds. We can’t depend on youth camp from 19, 20, or 50 years ago, our a month of Sundays ago for that matter. It’s time to worship now. It’s time to pray now. It’s time to be in the Word now. It’s time to fast now. If we do those things, a fire of revival will be ignited that can’t be put out if we will remain consistent and steadfast.

Prayer Focus- Pray that we would strive to continue to have a made up mind. Prayer that we have the courage if need be to acknowledge our altars are broken. Pray that we will rebuild our altars of worship so that we can experience everything God has for us now.

Scriptural Focus-

Hebrews 11:6: “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

In the opening verse of Hebrews the 11th Chapter, the writer gives us a definition of faith- “The substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” You all more than likely have heard the analogy of faith and the wind. We have never seen the wind, but we know that it is there. The same is true for Jesus. We’ve never seen Him, but we know He is there because we feel His presence and see His work in our lives. We are called to believe that He is who He says He is. It is a belief that should not waiver, but if we are honest, each of us has been in a place where our faith has been shaken down from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows. However, this is generally temporary. We must remember that as we pursue God, our efforts will be honored, but we can’t do it halfway. We will pursue that huge buck, and we will fight for that prize fish. Yet, I wonder if we are pursuing God with the same dedication and energy. Are we praying daily? Are we in the Word daily? Are we fasting ? Are we coming to gather as the church as we should ? These are all questions that we should be able to answer “yes” to. If you have some “no” answers, want you respond to Jesus today and begin the diligent pursuit to the answers of “yes”- Yes, Jesus I choose you first every time. Yes,I’m going to build spiritual disciplines in my life. Yes, I’m going to be in service. Yes, Yes, Yes ! In this, there is great reward straight from the King of Kings and Lord of Lords !

Prayer Focus- We must pray that faith would reign in our hearts and minds. We should ask God to help us seek him with as much determination and diligence we pursue the things of the world.

Scriptural Focus- “I am the LORD that healeth thee. Exodus 15:26

The last part of verse 26 of Exodus 15 is a reminder that we all need from time to time. This passage is where the Israelites are being led by Moses in the wilderness. Even after seeing God’s hand, they still complained. This is like many of us, really all of us at some point of our lives. We have seen God’s hand so many times that we can’t count them, but yet so many times we find myself complaining and feeling hopeless. God wishes to remind us this that even in the hardest times and in the times of waiting, He is the healer. We are to praise Him in these times just like we praise Him in the best times. We serve such a great God. We have often read in the Bible about God doing these miraculous things like parting the Red Sea for the Israelites, and we don’t really stop and soak it in that this is the exact same God we serve today. He hasn’t changed. God is our healer, and praise God, He isn’t finished either. Our God is so good! We just need to prepare our hearts, minds, and attitudes to receive the healing we need.

Prayer Focus- Ask God to reveal the areas of our lives which need to be healed. Pray that we would bring the mindset and heartset to receive the healing God has for us.
