In spiritual warfare, knowing the Word matters—but there is something deeper about being so rooted in His Word and so familiar with the One who is the Word that we are ready when the moment comes.

The hidden place before the Lord isn’t just about not pontificating in front of others.
It’s the little heart checks when you feel fear or even jealousy creep in.

It’s the moments first thing pausing to invite and look for the Holy Spirit in your day.

It’s the leading of every thought that screams louder than His still, small voice before truth and leaving them there.

It’s praying for symptoms and then in faith actually expecting to see improvement.

None of these moments (and so many more) will you have anyone else rooting you on in choosing life. It’s not glamorous and honestly can be taxing in the intentionality it takes. But there will be signs and the fruit of your life will be different.

This is what the life of one who is dependent on God’s faithfulness looks like. It is always the unseen that changes everything.

What does loving truth have to do with spiritual warfare?

In this study, we look at 1 Thessalonians 5:21 and what it means to test what we encounter, recognize what is true, and respond to it according to God’s Word. We’ll also explore a powerful warning in 2 Thessalonians 2 about the importance of having a “love of the truth.”

There is more to spiritual warfare than simply recognizing what is false. God is calling us into something deeper.

Vision: Helmet of Salvation

I saw a room where people were gathered to pray. A “War Room”.
One woman was wound up. Bringing up every place she saw the enemy’s activities.
She was so angry. “How dare he attack God’s kids? How dare he bring sickness and strife.” She sweated, in anguish over the injustice.

Over on the other side of the room sat another woman. Quiet, peaceful. As I looked closer. This woman looked identical to the “Warring” woman I had just seen.
Except I saw thoughts of injustices left unaddressed, thoughts of sickness, symptoms, and hurting loved ones.
They literally walked up to her…. Asking her to open her eyes. To fix on them and let them in. With her eyes still closed, she judged them and laid each thought before the throne of truth.

Her King would deal with each attack on God’s people. And she left them there.
Every symptom was nailed on the cross of her savior. She did not entertain the idea that it would follow her.

Every torment of pain, sickness, and destruction to her loved ones. She took before her experiential knowledge of her God’s love for her.
Every thought of abandonment, forgotten covenant, and defenselessness had to bow to the truth of His faithful love over her and those she loved.

She did not sweat. She did not fix her eyes on these attacks. But only led each one before TRUTH. Truth took every lie and injustice captive.
She smiled; she rejoiced! He countenance was lifted up in peace.
Then I saw it on her. She was wearing the Helmet of Salvation. The hope (positive expectation of good), the hope of Salvation!

2 Corinthians 10:3-5
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not wage war according to the flesh.
For the weapons of our warfare are not fleshly but powerful through God for the tearing down of strongholds. We are tearing down false arguments
and every high-minded thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. We are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Messiah.

In Part 5 of our Spiritual Warfare series, we look at the Helmet of Salvation and the hope that protects our minds. What happens when a thought comes? How do we recognize where it is leading us, test it against the truth of God’s Word, and decide whether to take it captive—or let it stand?

The battle may begin in the mind, but we don’t have to face it without the protection God has already given us through salvation.

This is the first verse Holy Spirit showed me as I woke up on this Sabbath morning. I had not even woken enough to form my own thoughts around the things that could cause fear. But let’s face it, when fear and anxiety are in an uproar, we carry it in our body, and at times our minds never really stop trying to find a way out.
But we serve a God who reminds us even in the peaceful times that we do not need to fear. He will strengthen us! He will help us! We are upheld, not forgotten or abandoned.
What God is this that you would remind me of your promises and then fulfill them all the days of my life? How great is our God?
I don’t know if you find yourself in battle or at peace today. But I know your need to sit in and know that your God is for you. That is needed; that is His desire for your heart! Sit, remember, breathe, and receive His kind assurance.
