Wishing everyone a Happy St. Mary Feast
August 22 | Mesore 16

On this day the church commemorates the revealing of the assumption of the body of our pure Lady St. Mary to heaven.

"And Mary said: My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; for behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed. For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name. And His mercy is on those who fear Him From generation to generation. He has shown strength with His arm; He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He has put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, And the rich He has sent away empty." (Luke 1:46-53)

May her intercession be with all of us!

Transfiguration Feast of our Lord on Mount Tabor

Today the church celebrates the transfiguration of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Mount Tabor. Our Lord Jesus Christ fulfilled His promise, for six days later, He took His three disciples, Peter, James and John, up on a high mountain, where He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them talking to the Lord.

The Lord wants to teach us that He is the Lord of Moses whom He can raise from the dead, and that He is the God of Elijah whom He can bring back from heaven.

"This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!" (Mt 17:1-8)

To Him is truly the glory forever and ever, Amen!

St. Mary Fast ~ Background
Aug 7-21 | Mesore 1-15

St. Mary is revered above all of the angels and saints, first and foremost because she gave birth to God. This is why icons, rather than showing her alone, show her carrying Christ as a Child in her arms. She is the Theotokos (Mother of God), meaning that Christ was not just fully human when He was given birth to, but rather He was also fully Divine. The key to this title is that Jesus Christ was always fully divine even inside of a human womb, not that St. Mary is the source or mother of divinity. It is a great honor to be filled with Grace through such a magnified event; a degree of Grace that no other creation has ever reached.
