YOUTH RECAP

Proud pastor, here. Three of our youth graduated last week, and the church got the opportunity to hear from them about their next steps. Ruthie will be attending Brown to study Political Science, Chloe will be attending A&M to study kinesiology, and Kai with the cool hair is heading to cosmetology school!

We're so happy for y'all and look forward to all the wonderful things you'll do.

KAIROS RECAP

This past Sunday was the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia, and in honor of that, as well as the upcoming 30th anniversary of Friends Church becoming Open & Affirming, we heard from some Friends folks about their experiences being part of an ONA church.

Glenn was part of the original committee when the designation passed in 1996, and Abigail shared her perspective as a more recent member of Friends Church.

Shoutout to Stacy for providing dinner!

KAIROS RECAP:

Last Sunday, the Youth Group gathered and did a little garden & compost maintenance.

Afterward, we shifted into our lesson about youth climate justice activists Melati and Isabel Wijsen, whose advocacy work surrounding plastic pollution in the oceans contributed to a ban on single-use plastics in Bali, Indonesia.

Exciting updates from last night's Kairos gathering!

As part of Earth Sunday, and in celebration of Friends's Creation Justice Church designation, the Youth Group spent the afternoon planting most of their seedlings in the keyhole garden. They now have tomatoes, cucumbers, spinach, and peas growing outside. They also planted two beautiful bushes out front, and trimmed the trees surrounding the church.

A huge shoutout to our youth for their continued commitment to their garden project, and a tremendous thanks to the Green Team, all volunteers, and Stacy for the delicious dinner.

Shoutout to Ruthie for sharing her knowledge of zine history that she learned during her time in D.C. with the ACLU National Advocacy Institute. This past Sunday at Kairos, we had some time to work on our own zines together, after sharing dinner, graciously provided by Kathy! All around good night.

GARDEN UPDATE:

After a productive meeting with the Youth Group and Friends Church gardening aficionados, we got to work at Kairos last night weeding the keyhole garden, planting spinach and two varieties of peas. We also started seven different seeds indoors. Stay tuned!

The Friends Youth Group got together for a Winter Solstice party last night where they made s'mores, drank wassail, had a white elephant gift exchange, built their own Stonehenge, and made pomanders (oranges with cloves). We had a grand, festive time!

A big thank you to the Friends Green Team for helping the Youth Group with their rain barrel workday. We sanded, vacuumed, washed, and primed, with plans to decorate later.

Oh, and we named her Meryl.

Exciting news! We are 83% to our CROP Hunger Walk goal, and currently the leading team on the B/CS leaderboard. Way to go, everyone!

There's still time to contribute towards this cause to help our neighbors in need.
