Before divine powers are bestowed upon you, you'll need to make sure you're not a demon. You can be powerful as a demon but you'll be taping power through the transcendental chaos, not the harmonious, divine pool. The first two of the eight rungs of Ashtanga Yoga are just short, basic instructions on how not to be a demon. The five commandments of dont's and the five commandments of do's- Yama and Niyama.
The five Yamas are Ahimsa (Non-Violence), Satya (Truthfulness), Asteya (Non-Stealing), Bramachariya (Wandering in the Void) and Aparagraha (Non-possessiveness).
The five Niyamas are Saucha (Purity), Santosha (Contentment), Tapas (Austerity), Svadhyaya (Study of Scripture) and Ishvara Pranadhana (Remembrance of the Divine).
We'll be going through Niyama this Friday (3/4), 6pm at Margaret Brent B (2112), Stamp. A video on the Hierophant's lecture and discussion on Yama will be uploaded soon.
