"Each little flower that opens,
each little bird that sings,
God made their glowing colors,
and made their tiny wings." 🎶

"All Things Bright and Beautiful" (no. 147 in The United Methodist Hymnal) was written by Cecil Frances Alexander, an Irish writer, in 1848. It notes the work of God's creation in both the majestic--like "purple-headed mountains--and the minute--like an open flower. It invites in us an awareness of God's work around us.

🎵 "God gave us eyes to see them,
and lips that we might tell
how great is God Almighty,
who has made all things well."

💭 Where are you noticing God's good works today?

Hi all,

Tomorrow, May 24, at 10:00 AM, we will have a joint worship service at the United Methodist Church of Huntington Cold Spring Harbor. We will celebrate Pentecost Sunday and Heritage Sunday.

All are welcome, and if you are able, please wear red for Pentecost!

Aldersgate Day, celebrated on May 24 (or the Sunday closest), commemorates the day in 1738 when John Wesley experienced assurance of his salvation, or, as like to say, John Wesley felt his "heart strangely warmed."

The story goes that Wesley reluctantly attended a group meeting that evening on Aldersgate Street in London. Wesley wrote in his journal that at about 8:45 p.m. he was listening to a reading from Luther's Preface to the Epistle to the Romans.

"While he was describing the change which God works in the heart through faith in Christ, I felt my heart strangely warmed. I felt I did trust in Christ, Christ alone for salvation; and an assurance was given me that He had taken away my sins, even mine, and saved me from the law of sin and death."

As we celebrate Aldersgate Day -- and Pentecost -- we remember the power of the Holy Spirit that ignited a movement called Methodism -- and continues to ignite us into faithful and loving actions today!

Francis of Assisi wrote the words used for "All Creatures of Our God and King" (United Methodist Hymnal no. 62) over 800 years ago. The poem he wrote, "Canticle of the Sun", was based on Psalm 148.

The hymn rejoices in finding the presence of God in the world around us. It calls us to appreciate the interconnectedness of our world. Everything working for the benefit of creation attests to the goodness of God.

🎶 "All creatures of our God and King,
lift up your voice and with us sing,
O praise ye!
Alleluia!"

💭 How do you join in the praise God's good creation? How have you been adding your voice to offer an "alleluia"?
