Weekly Devo:

"But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control." Galatians 4:22

Many of us have our gardens planted and have experienced the joy of those seeds sprouting. The seeds sprout, and before long there are leaves. Then we wait for the fruit/vegetables. We question ourselves as to when we will see the fruit of our labors.

Spiritual growth can look like that. We might not see things happen that we have been praying for (the fruits of the spirit as mentioned in the scripture above). But, we can ask God for His help in creating conditions needed for that growth like prayer, studying the scriptures, worship and serving others. Then we can experience the Holy Spirit producing Spiritual growth in us!

Weekly Devo:

"Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God's love for them." Jonah 2:8

I was reading today about "pride" and how that can be a form of idolatry. We think of idolatry as worshipping images carved from wood and stone (something we would never do!) But pride.....an idol? If an intangible like pride can be an idol, then what about envy and unforgiveness?.....anything we cling to more than God.

For instance, when pride and unforgiveness get in our way and we hold fast to something like, "You hurt me; I'll never forgive you", we are disrupting our fellowship with God. But (good news!) His grace is actively at work to expose our idols and keep us in communion with Him.

Sure, in our daily living, we might look at houses or cars as modern day candidates for idolatry. But, also let's consider eliminating the idols of pride, hatred and bitterness to which we too often cling. It's peaceful to think of God's grace covering us after getting rid of those pesky idols!

Weekly Devo:

Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, "I am the light of the world. If you follow Me, you won't have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life." John 8:12

When Jesus asked the disciples to follow Him, He didn't give them any additional information. There was not an outline or an agenda. The disciples had excuses and reasons why they felt they could not or would not follow Him. Jesus just wanted them to understand that whatever He had in store for their future was so much better than what they were leaving behind. He would not leave them, He would take care of them, and some day they would understand.

It is no different for us when we decide to follow Jesus. Often the path is unknown, and it is scary to leave behind what is familiar. As we trust and follow Him, He reminds us that He is taking care of us. He will not leave us. He will show us that what He has in mind for us is much better than what we are leaving behind.

Make the decision today: "Jesus, I want to follow You and Your way even though I am afraid and don't know where we're going."

Weekly Devo:

"But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity." 2 Peter 3:16

If you feel discouraged in your walk with God, and maybe just feel "stuck", then take a few moments and think back to where you were a year ago. You had no idea back then of the things you would be walking through and how strong you would need to be and how you would persevere. You may not be where you think you should be, but I bet you are further along than you were those many months ago.
So be encouraged that God is growing you. It may not be at the pace that you think it should be. But, today, take a deep breath and look back at how you have grown and all He has done for you. Find a calming peace in those thoughts and be excited for where He is taking you!

God, THANK YOU for sticking with me and growing me!
