Excerpts From Sunday’s Sermon “The God on the inside”
Scripture Reading
Psa 46:1-5
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.
There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.
God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.
The presence of God
In this passage it is declared that God is present in trouble. In other passages of Scripture the Psalms referrers to times of trouble (Ps. 9:9, 37:30, 27:5 to name a few) which could be understood that the phrase “times” could be applied to certain times but may not cover all times. And even in some places David would cry out “Why has tho forsaken me” which seemed to indicate that God had left him to get out of his problem on his own, and like David there are times when we feel this way. However, God said present trouble and Jesus reaffirmed in Heb. 13:5 “ I will never leave thee or forsake thee”
How is his presence shown to us
The key if found in verse 4 of Psalm 46 “There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.”
A study through the Bible will reveal the river is the Holy Spirit. Jesus said that after he went back to heaven he would send us the Holy Ghost which would abide with us forever, teach you, lead and guide you and help you. (John chapter 14)
Look at John 14:18 “I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.” And that is fulfilled with the Holy Spirit on the inside of us. Realize what you have in the Holy Spirit is not an “it” but a “he” for he is God the Holy Spirit. This is what John means when he writes “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” (1Jn 4:4)
One of the greatest comforts when we are in trouble is that we have someone with us. Be encourage and take heart you are not alone in your trouble. If you are a child of God he is with you. You may not feel like it but don’t go by you feelings, reach down on the inside of your spirit and take hold of the God that is on the inside and by faith walk out of the valley.
