Good morning! I think it's safe to say that the Unitarians wholeheartedly agree with the Dalai Lama and Pope Leo on this. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/18fNzsJtnA/

MESSAGE

I wholeheartedly endorse the powerful appeal for peace made by the Holy Father, Pope Leo, during his Palm Sunday Mass. His call for the laying down of arms and the renunciation of violence resonated profoundly with me, as it speaks to the very essence of what all major religions teach.

Indeed, whether we look to Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, Judaism or any of the world's great spiritual traditions, the message is fundamentally the same: love, compassion, tolerance, and self-discipline. Violence finds no true home in any of these teachings. History has shown us time and again that violence only begets more violence and is never a lasting foundation for peace.

An enduring resolution to conflict, including the ones we see in the Middle East or between Russia and Ukraine, must be rooted in dialogue, diplomacy and mutual respect — approached with the understanding that, at the deepest level, we are all brothers and sisters.

I urge for and pray that the violence and conflicts may soon come to an end.

Unitarian Universalists answered the call by the hundreds, driving and flying from around the country to bear witness in the place where a federal officer shot an unarmed woman to death. They joined thousands of their fellow clergy, bundled in thick coats for protection against the bitter subzero cold.

And together, Unitarian Universalists and other people of faith marched and sang and prayed in Minneapolis on Friday, sending a powerful, unified message: that love is greater than ICE.

From our National UUA, a link to spiritual practices for challenging times: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/19DikPQQkf/ Also know that all are welcome at Buddhist meditation, which starts at about 5:00 p.m. on Wednesdays. It is led by our beloved resident monk, Paul Cummins.

There are many challenging moments in our justice work—there is no way around that. What we can do is bring our spiritual and religious wisdom—the words, songs, prayers, embodied practices and more that strengthen us to the day to day work of justice.

We're grateful to share this collection of Spiritual Practices for Challenging Moments. If you're needing a space to strengthen your spirit for solidarity in this moment, we invite you to check out these practices, reflections, and other resources that may be of use in bringing your spiritual muscles to the challenges we face in justice work.

Very proud of our small community for providing holiday gifts for nine homeless students at Cocoa High School. I think this effort helped all of us experience the spirit of the season. Happy New Year!

UUA Statement on the killing of Renee Good https://www.facebook.com/share/p/17vEpXRqL3/

Statement on the killing of Renee Nicole Good by ICE:

We grieve the killing of Renee Nicole Good, a 37 year-old mother and legal observer, by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Minneapolis yesterday—an act of state violence that has stolen a life and reverberates through an already-wounded community. This is not an isolated incident, but the result of policies that criminalize immigration and enforce borders through fear, surveillance, and force rather than care.

Side With Love is in solidarity with immigrant communities in Minneapolis and across the country who live under constant threat of detention, separation, and death at the hands of the state. We are in solidarity with the faithful masses of people showing up to build a world where the worth and dignity of all are held as sacred and unshakable truth. As people of faith and conscience, we are called by love to tell the truth about this violence, to accompany those most impacted, and to keep organizing toward fulfilling the promise of our communities and institutions to make safety, belonging, and freedom real for all.

We join many others in demanding accountability and an immediate end to I.C.E. operations in all our communities. We invite all people of faith and conscience to grieve together, to refuse the normalization of state violence, and to commit themselves to the long work of transforming the systems that betray our deepest moral and spiritual commitments.

We are happy to partner with Parker Memorial Missionary Baptist Church as they help our neighbors with the current SNAP crisis. If you are in need of food, please attend their distributions!

This morning our board approved two $1000 donations from our Cocoa Fresh Market funds: one for the Central Brevard Sharing Center and another for a busy food bank in an impoverished area of West Cocoa. It's our hope that this will help our neighbors, some of whom are waiting on SNAP benefits to arrive.

“Love, compassion, and the caring customs of our ministries–our faith tradition–compel us to be firm in defending our neighbors, the vulnerable, the harmed, and the oppressed....”
“Therefore, we invite Congress... to come back to legislating with real solutions, a viable deal that protects women, children, families, and defends those being othered or scapegoated.”
-- UUSJ Executive Director Pablo DeJesús

Happy New Year to all those who are celebrating!

As the sun sets this evening, Jewish communities around the world welcome Rosh Hashanah—the beginning of the new year.

It is a season for reflection amid the sweetness of life. This year, we recognize the weight of grief in our world alongside the hope for renewal that the holiday brings.

May this Rosh Hashanah be a time of compassion, courage, and peace.
