So as it turns out, “Help”, is not the shortest prayer I got in the arsenal.
For this very morning, while praying the way I pray 99.9% of the time, which is with the help of my girls Ms. Bic Black Crystal and Ms. Sharpie, I discovered that apparently the shortest prayer I got is, “Lmk.”
And before you decide that I’m being ungodly or irreverent, save it.
And of course I mean that in the absolute nicest way, because honestly, this is me living very real and authentic before God AND you, and maybe just maybe, if more people knew that prayers can actually use real live right-now language, the language they actually use in their very real right-now lives, perhaps the more people would realize that praying is just talking…sometimes griping, sometimes begging, sometimes lamenting, sometimes high-fiveing, sometimes from a place of peace and calm and sometimes from a place of “OMG LORD GET UP AND DO SOMETHING!!”…with the One who knows you best, is always listening, always cares, always sees/hears/knows AND the One who just happens to love you like absolute crazy.
Which brings me to today.
Cuz see, I’ve read this big book called Bible a whole buncha times, and I still read it every morning (cuz I know about the importance of fueling my soul as much as my flesh) and I can remember all kinds of times in this book where phrases like “but they did not consult the Lord” can be found…and I also remember those times didn’t always end so well.
Right.
So this morning as I was pondering some things I’m considering, I found myself ending my first petition with, “Lord, lmk.”; and before I knew it, I had written out a whole plethora of things I’m currently pondering.
And so, with each of them too, I ended with, “Lord, lmk.”
And you know what?
I like it.
A lot actually.
Friends, our petitions don’t have to end with “Hear our prayer” just because that’s what we say in the pew. They can of course, but they don’t have to.
They can sound like us.
They can sound like real live us and not some artificially sweetened version of us. (or any version of artificial actually but don’t get me started)
So Lord, lmk, ok?
Great.
I’ll wait to hear.
Or see.
Or however it is You want to show me.
XO.
