If you are a newer Christian, 𝐛𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐝!

Know your sins have been forgiven and you are in a love relationship with the Father. You don’t deserve this, but it has been given to you by grace through faith.

If you are a mature Christian, 𝐛𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐝!

The Lord has brought you through so much in overcoming evil and strengthening you through you abiding in His word.

If you are an elder Christian, 𝐛𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐝!

You have helped the church continue and have helped develop other Christians through your abiding relationship with Christ.

Whatever stage of life you find yourself at, whatever generation of believer you are, 𝐛𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐝 by the Lord and in His great, great love for you.

Today we celebrated our recent graduates as they go forth!

This can be a tumultuous time in someone’s life — years of instruction culminating with a celebration. Change. Growing up. A new found freedom.

But then you face a tough question: 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙨 𝙣𝙚𝙭𝙩?

The Disciples faced the same question after the first Easter. Christ died. Christ was resurrected. He ascended to Heaven. 𝘽𝙪𝙩 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙬𝙚 𝙨𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙙𝙤?

The answer came 50 days after Easter Sunday: the day of a Pentecost. The Holy Spirit came down from Heaven, filled the room, and was poured out on all those who traveled to Jerusalem and were waiting for 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘹𝘵.

It was on the day of Pentecost that the church was born. The day Disciples began to “get it.”

It was transformative for them. And because of it, the Christian Church began to grow.

𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐬.

Deborah was a very accomplished woman. A mother, a wife, a prophetess, a warrior, and a judge. The only female judge mentioned in the Bible and one of the few prophetesses mentioned in the Bible. She was faithful and was leading Israel. Her influence was undeniable.

Lois and Eunice, mother and grandmother to Timothy influenced a young Timothy. Timothy would then follow the apostle Paul. Hannah influenced Samuel and did so much good.

The Bible is full of Godly women who had a major impact on the world. Sarah, Rebekah, Naomi, Jochebed, Hagar, Leah, Rachel, Elizabeth, Samson’s mother, Mary — and many more.

So often it is a Mother’s call which brings the lost back to God. Their influence in our lives is undeniable.

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝘀𝗼 𝗼𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀.

Many of the disciples were fishermen. The first time we hear about Peter in the book of Matthew, he was fishing in a lake with his brother. Jesus called them to follow Him and said he would make them fishers of men.

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗱.

Then things changed. Jesus was crucified. His tomb was found empty. The disciples saw him in the upper room.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭?

Peter — who had seen so much and had every reason to have changed his life — is gathered with the others. And he tells them he is going to fish. Two other do plea go with him.

𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘺 🐠 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘤𝘩?

𝙉𝙤𝙣𝙚.

Peter spent three years of his life with Jesus and doing what Jesus said to do. But when Peter believed Jesus was gone, Peter went back to 🎣. He went back to his old ways. The old Peter.

𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴.

Jesus appears to them and tells them to cast their net on the right side of the boat and caught so many fish they couldn’t put them all on the boat.

𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘸𝘦 𝘨𝘰 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘵𝘰 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘰𝘭𝘥 𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘗𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘥𝘪𝘥, 𝘎𝘰𝘥 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴𝘯’𝘵 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘱 𝘱𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘶𝘴. 𝘎𝘰𝘥 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴𝘯’𝘵 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘶𝘱 𝘰𝘯 𝘶𝘴. 𝘏𝘦 𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘏𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱𝘴 𝘶𝘴 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘰𝘯 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦.

There are lots of monumental events in human history, but none of them as significant as the life, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

There is nothing which comes close to completely changing the 🌎 like the Ressurection. Not the invention of 🔥, 📖, ☎️,💡, 🚙, 🛩️, 💻, or even 🤖.

𝗜𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴. It was His resurrection which shapes the lives of so many. How we deal with problems. How we forgive. How we handle strife. How we handle joy. How we love. 𝑯𝒐𝒘 𝒘𝒆 𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒆.

It started the formation of the Church — transforming anxious disciples meeting in secret rooms to a group ready to risk everything for the sake of Christ.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘶𝘴 𝘩𝘰𝘱𝘦. 𝘐𝘵 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘶𝘴 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨. 𝘐𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘶𝘯𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦 𝘰𝘯 𝘌𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘩 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘩 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨.

Imagine their surprise to find an empty tomb when they were expecting his body to be there. They were told time and time again what would happen and didn’t fully understand. But that moment would change everything. They would soon understand there is no need to despair.

𝐉𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐬 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞. 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐮𝐬. 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐮𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐬. The resurrection is the defining moment in all of history — and the world hasn’t been the same since.

𝐵𝑙𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑒𝑑 𝑖𝑠 𝐻𝑒 𝑤ℎ𝑜 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑠 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑁𝑎𝑚𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐿𝑜𝑟𝑑!

Some 2,000 years ago the world was about to change forever. Holy Week began with Jesus’s triumphant arrival. As he rode down the Mount of Olives, palm fronds were laid down celebrating his arrival.

The manner in which Jesus arrived was foretold many years before. By riding in on the foal of a donkey, Jesus was sending a clear message: 𝐇𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐚𝐡. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐚𝐡 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞.

And the people thought they understood. 𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒎𝒂𝒚 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘𝒏 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒆𝒏. 𝑩𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔 𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆.

Yet, Jesus knew. He knew what the week brought. He wept. He wept because they 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧.

He wept because of His love for them. Because of his love for us. He wept because of the sins humanity had committed 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲.

Jesus came exactly the way he was prophesied he would appear. He fulfilled every part of the prophesy. Read that again — 𝐇𝐞. 𝐅𝐮𝐥𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝. 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲. 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭. 𝐎𝐟. 𝐓𝐡𝐞. 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐲.

As He crested the hill, He knew what was going to happen. His triumphant entry was just the start. 𝙃𝙚 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙖𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙪𝙢𝙥𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙮 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙩 — 𝙞𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙞𝙣𝙫𝙞𝙩𝙚 𝙃𝙞𝙢 𝙞𝙣.

𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐡𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥.

Many are spiritual. You may be the strongest, fastest, and brightest — but in a spiritual battle your strength will fail you. Your speed will be useless. And while you may be bright, 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯’𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘯 𝘣𝘺 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧.

The Lenten season gives us the time and space to discern where we have sinned against God. You need time to resolve yourself, time to remove your enemies so you may stand against them.

𝐆𝐞𝐭 𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭. 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞. 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭. 𝐔𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐆𝐨𝐝.

We’ve all been there — where we become convinced God will stop loving us because of our sin. We either 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘦𝘯 𝘶𝘱 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘧𝘭𝘺 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 or God will punish us.

The truth is 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐲𝐨𝐮. Yes, you have sinned and continue to sin. Yes, you do things God does not like.

𝑩𝒖𝒕 God loves us anyway. You know the verse —

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life"

So where does this leave us? If God is not angry with us and still loves us and knows we will always fall short, how do we 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑑𝑢𝑐𝑒 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝐺𝑜𝑑?

God has given us autonomy over ourselves. We have the freedom to pick what is planted in our hearts. We decide what is applied to the souls of our mind.

Yes, we will be poor stewards of the land God has given us. We allow weeds, rocks, and pests to creep in. But God does not cut the garden down and start over. Why not? 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞.

During this Lenten season, consider how you can better produce for God. Evaluate your habits. And know that even though you may always fall short, God still loves you.

Nicodemus was unsettled. He couldn’t find pace in his heart. 𝘚𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘩𝘪𝘮 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘎𝘰𝘥 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳 𝘦𝘯𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩.

So he seeks out Jesus for a discussion. Not first thing in the morning. Not at high twelve in a busy marketplace. 𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬.

And Jesus meets him there.

So often in life, we find transformation occurs in darkness. How often do we have the most meaningful conversations in late hours? In quiet places? In small groups?

Nicodemus came with a question. And Jesus provided an answer — a truth Nicodemus did not yet understand — “𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧.”

Not a single spiritual transaction. A lifelong, sometimes uncomfortable, work of allowing himself to be remade over and over and over again.

In the dark quiet moment Nicodemus shared with Jesus, he learned 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐲; 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬. 𝐀𝐧 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡, 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐡𝐢𝐦.

God is not done with any of us. We all must make room to grow, to be born again.

God gave Adam and Eve one rule.

𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞 𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐞.

You know the story: if they ate from the tree the would die. The serpent whispered lies into their ears and convinced them God was withholding something good from them. They would be like God if they ate the fruit. They would be able to rule themselves.

They ate the fruit and 𝒅𝒊𝒆𝒅. Spiritually. They were dead. Yet, their sin did not end with them. It passed down generations to even us today. The very first born child in this earth was so impacted by this sinfulness that he murdered his own brother.

The sinfulness of each of our hearts can be traced back to this moment. So where does this leave us? 𝑊𝑒 𝑛𝑒𝑒𝑑 𝑎 ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑜. 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲.

He sent us Jesus. 𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗦𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝗶𝗻. 𝗧𝗼 𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘂𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀.

During this first week of Lent, consider your sinfulness. Tune out the quiet whispers of Satan , the position of sin he has placed into our lives, and examine your hearts.
