This Sunday, we will enter our 30 days of prayer series with a review of our own seasons together as The Vine—moments of fellowship, hearing and reflecting on the Scriptures, partaking at the Table, singing together—but also through the ways in which God has uniquely gifted us to enrich each others’ lives and the lives of our community. There is much to be grateful for!

What are some of the important events or experiences you’ve had as part of this local body of believers? Have you noticed any themes or patterns as you recall these highlights?

Maybe even share some below in the comments from your weekly time of Examen! And don’t forget to tap through the photos here from our last couple of Sundays.

Yesterday was our second monthly “family Sunday” where all our kids join us for the duration of worship. They get to practice listening to the sermon and the grown ups get to practice hospitality to our smaller, wigglier members throughout the service. Intergenerational life together is work, and worth it.

From the start of our 30 days of prayer to the start of small groups in mid-September, there’s a lot to look forward to. We’re expectant for how God will work in and through us as a church and personally in the coming weeks and months.

The latest from Hannah King for Christianity Today Magazine is about how stressful it can be for Christian parents to discern school choices for their kids. Spoiler alert: the “right” option is the one discerned in submission to God. Link to read is in our bio.

Starting this Sunday, Aug. 16 thru Sept. 13, join us for 30 Days of Prayer. We will unite in prayer as a church to seek renewal, revitalization, and a fresh understanding of our mission in and for Haywood County in the next season. We cannot attain any of these things apart from God, and we don’t want to attempt a mission that He has not called us to.

So for 30 days, we will practice listening to God together as a church. We’ll use the Examen, an ancient prayer tool that guides us through a series of 5 “steps” or prompts: seeking, thanking, reflecting, repenting, and anticipating.

We’ll start our 30 Days with an introduction of this tool on Sunday from our associate rector Hannah King and an opportunity to be guided through it next Thursday by Claire Andrews of Kerith Retreat.

Your part? Pray the Examen on your own once per week, using prompts we’ll send you home with. At the end of the 30 days, we’ll join with the Global Week of Prayer movement by organizing 24 hours of prayer at the Friesens’ home.

Whether you have been at The Vine for two weeks or twenty years, we are eager to hear how the Lord might lead you through prayer for this church.

What is God doing among us? Let’s find out together. Below are some of the details and save-the-dates for this special time starting on August 16:

Sunday, 8/16, 4pm: Launch Day
Hear about the initiative at church and pick up your Examen booklet and bookmark!

Thursday, 8/20, 6:30-8p: Examen Walkthrough
Claire will walk us through the Examen in real time at CCF. This quiet, contemplative, guided experience is for anyone seeking greater familiarity and comfort using the prayer practice.

Sat. 9/12, 3:00pm - Sun. 9/13, 3:00pm: 24 Hours of Prayer
Sign up for an hour-long time slot at the Friesens’ home during these last 24 hours of our congregational initiative. Message us for the sign-up link!
