At ARISE, the church is not a building, it’s not an organization, it’s not a meeting. We define the church biblically as a family of redeemed sinners sent together on a mission: make disciples, plant churches, change the world (Matthew 28:19-20). We are constantly engaging culture (1 Cor 9:22), pointing people to Jesus (1 Cor 2:2), and seeking the welfare of our city (Jeremiah 29:7). We work to r

emove the barriers that separate the sacred from the secular and replace them with bridges (Acts 17). Our preaching is Christ-centric and gospel saturated (1 Cor 2:2). Our ministry is incarnational and relational - grace and truth with flesh on (John 1). To accomplish this, we empower believers to use the gifts and interests God has blessed them with for the Glory of God and the good of our city.

Sermon Recap: Yesterday, we walked through the final letter to the seven churches in Revelation and heard Jesus’ words to the church in Laodicea. This was a church that was self-satisfied, self-reliant, and lacked knowledge of their deep need for Jesus. Jesus rebuked them for their lukewarm faith, calling them to repentance.

They received no praise–they were worldly, wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked– a living contradiction to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Yet, in His grace and mercy–He gave them a remedy. He called them to exchange their worldly riches and spiritual poorness for His riches and spiritual wealth–offering them true sight–which is given to the believer by the illumination of the Holy Spirit, justification–to be clothed in His righteousness, and the promise to sanctify them–like gold tried by fire.

He stands at the door and knocks, inviting His church and the individuals within it to hear his confrontation and to return to Him, to commune with Him. He never abandons those who are truly His.

May we be those who hear what the Spirit says to the churches and not trust in our own sufficiency, but recognize our deep need for Christ—the One who is our true wealth, righteousness, and life.

There is no such thing as a self-sufficient Christian. Our need is deep, but Jesus Christ is sufficient for all who are in Him. Today, let’s pray that we would recognize our need for Him and walk in daily dependence on His strength, not our own.

2 Corinthians 3:4-6: Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God. Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God, who has made us sufficient to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

Sermon Recap: This past Sunday, we read through Jesus’ letter to the church in Philadelphia. He gives only commendation to this faithful church. Though they had “little strength,” they trusted in the One who supplies all needs—the Holy One, the True One, the One who holds all power and authority.

Jesus set before them an open door that no one could shut: a door to proclaim the message of salvation. And as they walked faithfully through it, His strength and presence went with them.

The same is true for us today. Christ does not call us to rely on our own strength, but on His. He is faithful to sustain His people, empower His church, and keep every promise He has made

We live in an age that celebrates tolerance. What does the Word of God say about it? How do faithfulness and tolerance work together? Can they?

Tomorrow we’ll look at Jesus’ letter to the church in Thyatira — a church He commends for its faith, love, service, and patient endurance, yet also warns because their tolerance had led to compromise and unfaithfulness.

Come hear His message to His church — His call to return to Him, to truth, and to faithful obedience.

Join us tomorrow at 8:30 or 10:15.

Sometimes, where we are at can feel discouraging when we come to realize that we might be living more for this world than the next, when we repeatedly fall into the same sinful patterns, when we are looking more inward than upward.

Yet, it is good to remember that God knows the state of our souls, our struggles, temptations, and everything about us–and the gaze of God toward His children is not cold disappointment, but steadfast covenant love. He knows the full truth about us—and He repeatedly calls us to live as a new creation, to return, to walk with Him again today.

“The hope of every believer is that God knows that we dwell in His dear Son, who said, “Abide in me” (John 15:4). God sees us as we are in Christ, not as we are in ourselves.” -Joel Beeke

Where do your thoughts go when you hear the word compromise?

Sometimes it’s a good thing. But when we begin to compromise our convictions, we enter dangerous territory.

Jesus’ letter to the church in Pergamum (Revelation 2) is a powerful reminder of this. They held onto His name and didn’t deny their faith—but they tolerated worldly influence and failed to hate sin.

They were surrounded by a culture that celebrated everything except God—art, literature, magnificent architecture all dedicated to false gods, and living among this caused some to become a part of it while also leading others astray.

So Jesus calls them to repent– to turn to Him–He tells them He knows where they live. He knows their daily struggles and what they face, but reminds them that He is greater than the enemy who surrounds them on all sides.

He speaks personally to them, reminding them of His provision and victory.

This wasn’t just written to them—it’s written for us.
In a world where compromise is easy and often encouraged, we’re called to stay alert. Not in our own strength—but in His.

We are in the world, but we are not meant to be of it.

Join us in praying for the global & persecuted church.

Across the world, many of our brothers and sisters are standing firm in their faith under pressure, loss, and even danger. While we may not always personally see or even fully understand their struggles, God sees their faithful endurance—and promises a crown of life.

Pray for:
-strength and courage in the middle of trials
-for protection over believers facing persecution
-for deep joy and unshakable faith in Christ
-for the Gospel to continue to go forth to all the nations

“Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.”

Yesterday, we looked at the church in Smyrna—a church facing intense persecution.

Jesus gave them no correction—only encouragement. They were suffering for Him through poverty, slander, prison—even death. And still, He says, “Do not fear. Be faithful.”

How and why can He ask that?
Because He went first.

He suffered, was persecuted, and was faithful unto death. But death did not defeat Him.

And He reminds the church of this when He says—
He is the First and the Last. He is eternal, unchangeable, sovereign, and victorious.

So faithfulness in the fire doesn’t mean there won’t be fear—it means you trust Him through it, and He will make this possible!

It means suffering doesn’t rewrite what’s true.
It means holding onto the hope of the crown of life that He promises belongs to the faithful.
