First full day update!
Yesterday I told you I saw a group of loud and high energy kids!
That still remains true! But I also saw something else this morning!
During our morning devotion time, we challenged our students to take a moment of solitude and silence.
We asked them to take about 30 minutes, and instead of listening to our speaker, myself, or one of our MACU camp team members teach, we said, "Go find a quiet space and be present with Scripture. Be present with your Father!"
And y'all wouldn't believe it. A hush fell over the entire campsite as they found their spaces and settled in with their Bibles and the devotionals Justin Keene put together for them. They sat there in silence, focused on their relationship with God, getting to know the Jesus who was present before the universe existed and who came to earth to get to know us and to save us! Wish y'all could have seen it!!
Community fellowship, community worship, and small groups are great and so necessary for us, but a part of this discipleship walk we are all on is learning to worship and seek the Father in the quiet moments when parents, youth pastors, volunteers, and others aren't around to guide every step, every thought, and every decision to ignore a distraction.
It's just you, the silence, and the Creator God. Are you committed enough to make a decision to be present with your Heavenly Father when nobody is watching, when it would be easy to just pretend to do the work and just stare at the floor, not really diving into that moment?
This is where a true disciple is made! Nobody is looking, just you and God. Are you willing and ready to be a follower, to be a disciple, when the only thing to gain from it is a deeper relationship with God? No social media credit, no popularity gained, no financial gain to be had, just a deeper relationship with Christ! Are you ready for that?
Sorry, another long one, but for those that stuck around, thank you!
