Another great Sunday! We were blessed and excited to have our friend, brother, mentor and lead pastor for Valley Church at our Clinton campus to bring us a message from Philippians 4:10-14.
This week, we felt the limitations of our physical space. It was loud, our kids were busting out the seams, we overflowed our chairs, our volunteers were strapped. But there's only one thing to say about that. PRASIE GOD.
As Pastor Adam preached about contentment in all circumstances, I started to realize - we have so much that the Lord had given us.
We have kids, and young mothers and fathers trying to figure it out. We have people that worship, and I mean WORSHIP, by singing their hearts out every week. We have a building with owners that have been absolutely delightful to work with, and have accommodated their space in ways that far exceeds the agreement of the rental space.
We have a full parking lot, full chairs, and empty coffee pots by the end of service. I even witnessed one of our older families hold an infant during the service while the mom and dad tended to their toddler outside.
This is what the church should look like. The church is not a stuffy building where everyone needs to be quiet, it's a family. In my opinion, the church should more model a family around the dining room table than a lecture hall. It should be modeled after Titus 2, a multigenerational group where we all help submit to one another.
So, as we wait for a permanent space, we need to turn our attention upward and realize, God has already given us more than we deserve. He gave us His Son. It's time to invest in our people, in our kids, in our moms and dads, in our elder generation - it's time to turn our attention toward our fellow church family members. This is contentment, which is found in community as we help one another. Contentment found in obedience to our Good God.
Our building is not a problem. Our kids aren't in the way. Our older generation isn't holding us back. Our working families don't need to do more.
We are the church. And we are content in every circumstance. So, church, let's be the hope that Jesus calls us to be.
“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13, CSB)
