Forgiven Much = Much Love (Luke 7:36-50)

This past Sunday, we dove into Luke 7, which invites us to examine a profound truth: those who understand the depth of their forgiveness will love Jesus deeply. We encounter a striking contrast between Simon the Pharisee, who believed his religious devotion made him acceptable, and an unnamed woman known throughout town as a sinner. While Simon offered Jesus no hospitality, this woman entered uninvited and worshiped with abandon—washing Jesus' feet with her tears, drying them with her hair, and anointing them with expensive perfume. Her extravagant worship wasn't about performance; it flowed from a heart that understood both the weight of her sin and the magnitude of Christ's forgiveness. Jesus uses a simple parable about two debtors to reveal a life-changing principle: the one forgiven much loves much, while the one forgiven little loves little. The challenge for us isn't whether we're sinners—we all are—but whether we recognize how far we've fallen short and how incredible it is that God's grace reaches us anyway. As we approach the Lord's Supper, we're called to honest self-examination, asking where we're falling short and where we're failing to love Jesus much. The beauty is that confession leads to cleansing, and understanding our desperate need for grace transforms our worship from obligation to overflow.
