Last night we studied Ecclesiastes. We saw that the writer, for a time, denied himself nothing in this life. He acquired great wealth, property, pleasures of al kinds, power, authority, etc. "I devoted myself to study and to explore by wisdom all that is done under heaven." (1:13a NIV) After a life devoted to finding fulfilment apart from God he determined that "Everything is meaningless!"" (12:8 NIV)

There is NOTHING in this life that can ever bring you fulfilment apart from God! No act, no place, no person, no position, and no possession! You may think that something does, it may bring you satisfaction in the moment, but there is a HUGE difference in satisfaction and fulfilment. Please don’t ever mistake satisfaction for true, and pure, fulfilment.

Chapter 11 says to enjoy your youth but don't forget that one day you will give an account to God for every moment of your life here on earth. So your youth is a wonderful thing, don't waste it!

Kicking off "Radical" last night we discussed the difference between a "war time" mentality and that of a "peace time" one. Consider World War II. During the war the United States squeezed every resource it could and used it to further the war effort. Citizens back home made sacrifices and worked harder to ensure that our men on the ground had what they needed. Now consider this versus the peace time mentality we live in today, we are indulging ourselves in the abundance of our nations power and resources.

This same concept can be applied to how we live out our faith! As individuals as well as a church we can sit back and indulge in the blessings we have here in this free nation, pouring our time and energy into selfish and temporary pleasures. Or we can ask ourselves, 'Why has God blessed us so?' From there we can make the choice to ask 'How can I sacrifice to further God's Kingdom?' You see this is what Jesus meant when He said deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow Me! We owe our total allegiance to Him, He demands we give our everything! But why? What effort is there that we need sacrifice so much to advance?

For starters consider the fact that there are an estimated 7.53 billion people living on this earth. Around 33% of them claim to be Christians. This means that 4.9 BILLION people are on their way to Christ-less eternity. This is an emergency like no other! This is a spiritual war with literally billions of people's eternity at stake! So ask yourself, if you were a lost soul on this earth and had never heard the name of Jesus and knew nothing of the Salvation He offered, what would you want a Christian to sacrifice to save your eternity?... The answer is everything!
