Very exciting news for UBC Hattiesburg!!!

University Baptist Church welcomes our new pastor, Jennifer Brown.  Reverend Brown was ordained to the ministry by First Baptist Church, Nashville, Tennessee, and received her Master of Divinity degree from Duke Divinity School in Durham, North Carolina, in 2017.

She served as a chaplain at the Interfaith Prison Ministry for Women in Raleigh, North Carolina, from 2016-2017, where she preached, led small group Bible studies, organized volunteers, and provided one on one pastoral counseling for women of many faiths and no faith.

From 2017-2019, she served as a pastoral resident at First Baptist Church, Colorado Springs, Colorado. A post-graduate training program, the residency was designed to provide new pastors with experience in preaching, teaching, pastoral care, church administration, and congregational organization.

From 2019 until the present, Reverend Brown served as an Associate Pastor at the Community Church at Tellico Village in Loudon, Tennessee. Her experience included preaching on a rotating basis with other pastors, participating in worship planning and providing pastoral care to members of her congregation. She worked with community groups, provided leadership for church council members and supervised new member recruitment and retention. She also built a successful pastoral residency program.

In her application, Reverend Brown said, “In review of the position description, I am most excited about working with a congregation who actively lives into its Baptist beliefs, cherishes intergenerational community, and values the connections between art and faith.”

Jennifer’s interests include podcasts, reading, and yoga. She and her husband, John-Mark, are the proud pet parents of Linus, who is learning to be a therapy dog.

Reverend Brown’s first Sunday at University Baptist Church will be December 4, 2022.

Testimony is the cure for the despair that afflicts people and churches after two years of pandemic and politics have tried American religion by fire, Courtney Stamey told participants in the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship June 29. While the Southern Baptist Convention meeting just two weeks earlie
