Antony Flew, a famous atheist philosopher, and my mentor Gary Habermas were good friends. One time Gary asked him, "Tony, do you ever doubt the atheism that you hold and teach? Do you ever doubt whether atheism is true?" and he said, "Gary, I doubt it every day." Here was a guy regarded as the most influential atheist philosopher of the latter part of the 20th century who said he doubted his atheism every day. Something similar was answered by CS Lewis when he was asked in a BBC interview if he ever doubted whether Christianity is true. He said, "Sure, there are days when I think about it, and I think maybe atheism seems more plausible than Christianity." But I have to admit that when I was an atheist, I also doubted. And there were days when Christianity seemed more plausible than atheism.

My point is that it's not just Christians who doubt. Atheists doubt too. People who have other worldviews also doubt. Doubting is normal. It is part of the human experience.

When I went to graduate school, I was obsessed with finding the answer as to whether we could prove that Jesus rose from the dead using the standard methods used by professional historians. I was obsessed with that. My doctoral dissertation was about 260,000 words with over 2000 footnotes (the average doctoral dissertation is 60 to 80,000 words). It was crazy! I also engaged with some of the most brilliant atheists in our country, such as Elaine Pagels, a distinguished professor of religion at Princeton, and Bart Ehrman, a distinguished professor of Christianity at UNC Chapel Hill. I've had public dialogues with Dale Martin, the senior New Testament professor at Yale University. When I went to college, I had a lot of difficulties, but I wanted to go out and build a historical case and put it in front of the toughest skeptics out there to see if it could stand up to the toughest critical scrutiny. Today I'm convinced that it does.

Some people might say, "Okay, there is a historical Jesus. But it's nothing like what we read in the Gospels." Here is a list of things that we see in the Gospels and are well evidenced and with incredible scholarly support:
1. He lived all his life in Judea. In Palestine.
2. Jesus believed he had a special relationship with God, who had chosen Jesus to usher in his kingdom.
3. He performed deeds that amazed the crowds and that he and his followers regarded as divine miracles and exorcisms. This is not to say that scholars think they were divine miracles and exorcisms, but that Jesus performed certain acts that did astonish the crowds and that they interpreted them in this sense.
4. All agree that Jesus taught with parables.
5. That he annoyed the Jewish leaders because he constantly criticized them.
6. And that at the behest of the Jewish rulers of the time, Pilate crucified him.
7. Shortly after, his followers believed that he had risen and had appeared to them.

I absolutely agree with Werner Arber, God is the only satisfactory answer to how life arose from non-life.

"Apologetics, when done with gentleness and respect (1 Peter 3:15), is beneficial in evangelism as we see the Holy Spirit use it time and time again in the Scriptures through Paul’s 'reasoning' and 'persuading' to draw souls to the Lord. However, in this article, I will show how apologetics in the local church has other benefits: equipping the saints and preventing apostasy. Of course our entire Christian walk should be dedicated toward evangelism; that is a given. But I also want to show that apologetics has benefits for the believers themselves and why the local church is the best source to implement them."

Life begins at fertilization.
That’s science, not religion.

Just as we do not typically persecute heterosexual college students who engage in sexual activity before marriage, we ought not oppress or torment the practicing homosexual. After all, we are all created in God’s image. Jesus taught us to love everyone, from our neighbors (Mark 12:31) to our enemies (Matt 5:44) and that includes those in the LGBTQ community.
