A Collect for Memorial Day
Almighty and everlasting God, whose life is communion,
whose peace is the healing of all creation,
and whose love is stronger than death:
Receive into your mercy all who have given their lives
in the service of freedom and peace.
Keep us mindful of their sacrifice,
steadfast in gratitude,
and courageous in the work of repair;
that, honoring those who have given their all,
we may practice the peace for which they longed,
seek the truth that makes peace possible,
and become, in this place,
a people shaped by grace and bound together in love;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns,
one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in us the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and we shall be created, and you shall renew the face of the earth.

O God, who by the light of the same Holy Spirit instructs the hearts of the faithful, grant that we may be truly wise and ever rejoice your consolations. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

And why should living my life require me to use two different operating manuals? If God is truly one and truly God of all, then how can truth be divided?

Collect for the First Sunday After the Epiphany

Father in heaven, who at the baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan named him your Beloved and anointed him with the Holy Spirit: Grant that all who are baptized into his Name may live from that same belovedness, keeping the covenant you have made with us, not by fear or striving, but by trusting your delight. Send us into the world to confess Christ with courage,
to do justice with kindness, and to be home for those still standing in the waters, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

Prayer for Venezuela

January 3, 2026
Gracious and merciful God,
You are our refuge and strength, a very present help in times of trouble.
We come before you with hearts that are heavy yet hopeful, lifting up the people of Venezuela and the very complicated realities they face in these challenging times.
Bring calm where there is fear, clarity where there is confusion, and restraint where there is anger or despair.
Guide leaders, institutions and communities toward decisions that honor life, dignity and the common good.
We pray especially for the Episcopal Church in Venezuela, for priests, deacons, lay leaders and all who serve faithfully amid uncertainty.
Sustain them with courage, wisdom and perseverance.
Let your church be a living sign of your grace and a place of refuge, truth, accompaniment and hope for all who suffer.
God of justice, where systems oppress and voices are silenced, raise up pathways of accountability, reconciliation and peace.
Protect the most vulnerable, the poor, the displaced, the elderly and the children, and strengthen all who labor for justice, healing and reconciliation.
God of hope, when the future feels fragile and unclear, remind your people that you are not absent.
By your Holy Spirit, kindle hope that does not disappoint and peace that surpasses all understanding. We entrust Venezuela, its people and your church into your loving hands, trusting not in our own strength but in your steadfast love made known in Jesus Christ, who is our peace.
In his holy name we pray.
Amen.

A Collect for the Epiphany

O God of far-off stars and ordinary houses, you revealed your light not to those who guarded it, but to travelers who followed what they could not yet explain. As you once drew the nations to the brightness of your rising, draw us out of our familiar paths and into your surprising presence, that we may learn to see your glory where we least expect it—among the poor you defend, the strangers you welcome, and the child who receives our fragile gifts.

Give us courage to follow your light beyond fear, wisdom to recognize you when we arrive, and trust to return by another road, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
