Scripture for worship on 6-7-26:

Matthew 7:21-29

Concerning Self-Deception

21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 Then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; go away from me, you who behave lawlessly.’

Hearers and Doers

24 “Everyone, then, who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. 25 The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall because it had been founded on rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell—and great was its fall!”

28 Now when Jesus had finished saying these words, the crowds were astounded at his teaching, 29 for he taught them as one having authority and not as their scribes.

CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 23 (Unison From Memory)

*SONGS OF PRAISE: “He Leadeth Me”
VERSE 1: He leadeth me: O blessed thought! O words with heavenly comfort fraught! Whate'er I do, where'er I be, still 'tis God's hand that leadeth me.
VERSE 2: Sometimes mid scenes of deepest gloom, sometimes where Eden's flowers bloom, by waters calm, o'er troubled sea, still 'tis God's hand that leadeth me.
Refrain: He leadeth me, he leadeth me; by his own hand he leadeth me: his faithful follower I would be, for by his hand he leadeth me.
VERSE 3: Lord, I would clasp thy hand in mine, nor ever murmur nor repine; content, whatever lot I see,
since 'tis my God that leadeth me. REFRAIN
VERSE 4: And when my task on earth is done, when, by thy grace, the victory's won, e'en death's cold wave I will not flee, since God through Jordan leadeth me. REFRAIN

CALL TO CONFESSION
God’s mercy is from everlasting to everlasting, therefore, we dare to draw near to God and confess our sins.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (unison)
ONE: Holy God, you have said that not everyone who calls your name will be saved, only those who do the will of God.
MANY: We confess that sometimes our actions do not match our words. Forgive our hypocrisy and help us proclaim your love through how we live.
ONE: Powerful God, you promised that those who hear your words and put them into action will be able to stand strong.
MANY: Forgive us for placing our trust in the promises of the world which lure us with false guarantees of security and happiness.
ONE: Merciful God, you know our frailty, how we give into temptation again and again. Thank you for offering us another chance and another chance.
MANY: Give us faith to embrace your offer of grace and forgiveness.
ALL: In the name of Jesus our Savior. Amen.
a moment of silent reflection

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS
One: Friends, believe the good news of the gospel:
MANY: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven, freed and made whole.

PASSING OF THE PEACE
MOMENT WITH THE YOUNG

REFLECTION SONG: “My Hope is Built on Nothing Less”
VERSE 1: My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus' name.
REFRAIN: On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand: all other ground is sinking sand; all other ground is sinking sand.
VERSE 2: When darkness veils his lovely face, I rest on his unchanging grace; in every high and stormy gale, my anchor holds within the veil. REFRAIN
VERSE 3: His oath, his covenant, his blood, support me in the whelming flood; when all around my soul gives way, he then is all my hope and stay. REFRAIN
VERSE 4: When he shall come with trumpet sound, O may I then in him be found: dressed in his righteousness alone, faultless to stand before the throne REFRAIN

SCRIPTURE: Matthew 7:21-25
SERMON: In _________ We Trust?

THE LORD’S SUPPER

INVITATION TO THE LORD’S TABLE
ONE: The Lord be with you.
MANY: And also, with you.
ONE: Lift up your hearts.
MANY: We lift them up to the Lord our God.
ONE: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
MANY: It is right to give our thanks and praise….

GREAT PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

SHARING OF COMMUNION
PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

OFFERING
PRAYER OF DEDICATION

*CLOSING SONG: "In Christ Alone”
VERSE 1: In Christ alone my hope is found; He is my light, my strength, my song; this Cornerstone, this solid ground,
firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace when fears are stilled, when strivings cease; my Comforter, my All in All; here in the love of Christ I stand.
VERSE 2: In Christ alone who took on flesh; fullness of God in helpless babe. This gift of love and righteousness scorned by the ones He came to save; 'til on that cross as Jesus died the wrath of God was satisfied; for ev'ry sin on Him was laid; here in the death of Christ I live.
VERSE 3: There in the ground His body lay; Light of the world by darkness slain. Then bursting forth in glorious day, up from the grave He rose again! And as He stands in victory, sin's curse has lost its grip on me; for I am His and He is mine, bought with the precious blood of Christ!
VERSE 4: No guilt in life, no fear in death; this is the pow'r of Christ in me. From life's first cry to final breath, Jesus commands my destiny. No pow'r of hell, no scheme of man can ever pluck me from His hand; 'til He returns or calls me home, here in the pow'r of Christ I'll stand!
