Happy Wednesday!
Today's devotional will come from James 1:19-22.
Have you ever been angry? I know for certain we can all say we have. Growing up, we always heard the saying, "You have one mouth and two ears, listen more than you speak". We might think that phrase is a little silly, but there is so much truth in that small statement, and James 1:19-22 tells us to be slow to anger.
But why? Anger causes us to do things that sometimes, we can't undo. Anger only see's one side of the story and tries to "justify" it's self through words. Anger can be a huge stumbling block as we live out our faith in Christ.
James 1:19-22 says,
"My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says."
James is saying we need to be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to anger. This is really hard for us to do. But is it possible? Absolutely! When we fix ourselves on Jesus and think about what His word says before we speak, we will be living out God's command. We are told to not just read about what you should do when you're angry, but actually live it out, as verse 22 tells us to do!
What are some areas in your life where your actions and deeds don't match up?
Jesus,
Thank you that your word is truth, that is a minor to my heart. Today help me be a doer of your word, speaking less and listening more. Use my life to help others and be a blessing. In Jesus name, Amen.
We hope this encouraged you today and we want to invite you to our small group and worship time, tonight at 6pm! Have an awesome day!!
