City Relief

City Relief Mobile Homeless Resource Center Over 20 years time, The Relief Bus has:

Served over 3 million servings of food and beverage. Come join us won't you?

Friendly faces serve up a delicious, hearty vegetable soup that truly tantalizes the taste buds, fresh Portuguese rolls and hot chocolate or iced tea (depending on the season) complete the menu. Connected 120,000 people to help and hope. Mobilized over 30,000 volunteers to serve with our outreach. People on the streets show up for the great food, but come away with so much more. Staff and voluntee

rs go out of their way to really LOVE people. Many people on the streets are in a hard place in life and need a friend- someone to talk to who will really listen. When we discover the needs in people's lives, we go to work to actually help meet those needs. We connect people to shelter, job training, medical care, detox and faith-based drug/alcohol rehabilitation centers. This kind of helping hand can literally transform someone's future and can many times make the difference between life and death. We have seen men and women totally turn their lives around because someone they met on the bus took the time to care. It was the first step to freedom and a new life. A little girl in New Jersey had two bags of Cheetos in her pocket. She tried to share one with Olivia, a volunteer she had just met.

Olivia cried about it on the bus ride home.

People experiencing homelessness are not defined by what they lack. That girl was defined by what she offered.

Showing up changes both people. That's why our volunteers keep coming back.

The opioid epidemic is growing, but Narcan can reverse an overdose.

It's available at most pharmacies without a prescription. Most people can learn to use it in an afternoon.

When fentanyl is involved, the window can be 90 seconds.

800,000 Americans have died from drug overdoses in the last decade. 70% involved opioids.

Matthew runs street outreach for City Relief in New York. He carries Narcan on every shift.

Narcan is available at most pharmacies without a prescription. No training is required to pick it up, and free training exists online if you want it.

When fentanyl is involved, you may have 90 seconds. The person closest might be you.

Our Senior Guest Care Coordinator, Marcellous, met a man who spent a year in the shelter system, earned his housing voucher shopping letter, and started looking for an apartment.

But his social worker never told him it had expired. Now, he's back on the streets. But Marcellous is working to get that letter reactivated. That's what advocacy looks like at City Relief.

A housing voucher is not the same as housing. Families wait years for a Section 8 voucher.

Only one-third of voucher holders live somewhere with any legal protection against that refusal. Research confirms landlord rejection, not personal circumstance, is the primary reason vouchers go unused.

Getting the voucher is step one, but getting through an open door is the real barrier.

Our annual Celebration event was truly amazing! One of the most impactful things about the night was our opening video and this is it.

If you weren’t there don’t worry, you can still be apart of helping us to achieve that goal that we are so close to. $500,000 to help our neighbors experiencing homelessness. We are still going all in so none are left out.

Go all in with us by giving at the link in our bio. Together we can end homelessness. 🩵

In 1994, the federal government did some research. Families received housing vouchers to move to lower-poverty neighborhoods.

Children in those families earned 31% more as adults and were more likely to attend college.

The evidence for what stable housing does is clear, but the political will to fund it is not.

Ava drove out on her spring break to serve at our Chelsea outreach.

She came expecting to give something. She left saying the people she met gave just as much back.

Colleen shouted "They're back!" when her team walked in after two months away. That kind of welcome changes how you see everything.

Showing up consistently is what builds trust. That's what our volunteers make possible.
