Twenty-five years later, the scenes of September 11, 2001, are still hard to forget. In the days that followed, funeral Masses like the one pictured here at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York became a painful part of daily life as families, firefighters, police officers, and entire communities mourned those who were lost.

This Friday, September 11, at the 8:30 AM Mass at St. Therese of Lisieux in Cleveland, we will pray for all who lost their lives on 9/11, for the first responders and others who carried the burden of that day, and especially for the families who have lived with that loss for the past 25 years.

Please join us if you can. No speeches, no politics. Just Mass, prayer, remembrance, and gratitude for those we will never forget.

Today the Church celebrates the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the birthday of the Mother of Jesus.

For us in Queen of Heaven Council 4572, this feast has a special meaning. Our council takes its name from Mary under her title Queen of Heaven, a reminder that the young woman born into an ordinary family was chosen by God for an extraordinary purpose.

Mary’s life was built on faith, humility, courage, and service. Those are qualities every Catholic man can learn from as we try to be better husbands, fathers, friends, and Knights.

So today we give thanks for Mary, Queen of Heaven, and ask her to pray for our council, our families, our parish, and all the men trying to live their Catholic faith a little better each day.

Happy Birthday, Blessed Mother.

Mary, Queen of Heaven, pray for us.

Today’s Gospel, Matthew 18:15–20, gives us a simple but challenging lesson about how Christians should handle conflict.

Jesus does not tell us to gossip about someone, embarrass them publicly, or quietly carry resentment. He tells us to go to the person directly and try to make things right.

That can be hard.

It is usually much easier to talk about someone than to talk to them. It is easier to stay angry than to have an uncomfortable conversation. But Jesus calls us to something better.

Correction should come from love, not pride. The goal is not to win an argument. The goal is to restore a relationship.

Jesus also reminds us that we are not meant to live our faith alone. He says, “Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”

That is a powerful reminder for our families, our parishes, our friendships, and our brotherhood as Knights.

When we gather in Christ’s name, when we pray together, serve together, forgive one another, and try to repair what is broken, Christ is there with us.

This week, maybe the challenge is simple: Is there someone we need to speak with instead of speaking about?

Lord, give us the humility to forgive, the courage to have honest conversations, and the grace to always seek peace.

Our Father, Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done,
on earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen 🙏🏼

Happy World Beard Day!

Turns out, beards get a few mentions in the Bible.

In Leviticus 19:27, the Israelites were told not to cut off the edges of their beards. Psalm 133 describes the precious oil running down Aaron’s beard as a picture of brothers living together in unity. And in 2 Samuel 10, David’s men were so humiliated when half their beards were shaved that he told them to stay in Jericho until their beards grew back.

So yes, gentlemen, the Bible understands the importance of a beard.

Of course, Scripture doesn’t say a man needs a beard to be a faithful Christian. Bearded, clean-shaven, or somewhere in that awkward two-week stage, what matters is the kind of man you are.

Faithful to God. Faithful to your family. Ready to help your neighbor. Willing to stand beside your brothers.

That sounds a lot like Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism.

And if you happen to have a good beard while doing it, today is your day.

Today’s Gospel is pretty plain.

Jesus tells us that if we’re going to follow Him, we’ve got to be willing to put Him first, even when it’s not easy.

For us husbands and fathers, that can mean a lot of things. Trying to lead our families in the faith. Making time for prayer. Getting everybody to Mass. Owning up when we’re wrong. Choosing what’s right instead of what’s easy.

None of that compares to what Christ did for us. But it is part of what it means to follow Him.

That’s one of the good things about the Knights of Columbus. We’re just a group of Catholic men trying to help each other do a better job of living the faith, taking care of our families, and serving our parish and community.

No pressure. You don’t have to make every meeting or every event. Just come when you can, help when you can, and grow in the faith with some good men beside you.

“Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.”
