Spring sprung and the gardens are in bloom! More excitingly, our 2026 Next Step Mission Team leaders arrived at Brookdale Orchard! (l-r) Evan from Illinois, Esther from NY, Izzie from Nebraska, Tofunmi from Ohio, and Rain from Florida! They are an amazing team of young missionaries, jumping right in the BO groove - heart, head and hands, preparing for our first mission team arriving this week from Missouri! It's going to be another great summer!

100 Black Women of Cleveland will host a discussion on Project 2025, Sunday, February 22, 2026 beginning at 1 p.m. St. St Matthew United Methodist Church. Reverend Dr. Joy Bostic will also preach our morning worship service at 11 a.m. Be there or be square! (oldie but still goodie!)

Summer Mission Team Season is here!

Once again, we are blessed to have our extended faith family join us in mission at Brookdale Orchard. Reverend Nathan Howe, who brought our first mission team to the orchard in 2021 when pastoring the United Methodist Church of Berea, kicked off our summer season this year with a team from his current congregation, Kent UMC.

Deacon Kayla Smrt, Director of Children, Youth and Family Ministry at Faith Lutheran Church in Glynn Ellyn, Illinois arrived this week with our first out of state team coordinated by Next Step Ministries. They made history as our first Illinois team, and our first Lutheran congregation to be in mission with us in the orchard since we began hosting teams in 2021. With their arrival, we have hosted teams and team leaders from fourteen states: Arkansas, Arizona, California, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Wisconsin!

A few weeks ago, we shared the good news of a new partnership with the Western Reserve Herb Society to develop a culinary and medicinal herb garden at Brookdale Orchard. I am thrilled to share that Marie Dowling, Principal of Behnke Landscape Architecture, has joined us in this venture and presented us with an amazing design for our formal North Star Herb Garden! Complete with an entryway engraved with the significance of the North Star, a central planter surrounded by a seating wall with the orchard’s signature UGRR Codes of Freedom symbols, accessible pathways anchored by UGRR COF information nodes leading to the future Harriet Tubman Hall!
